Matt Hughes passes away

So Sad...I heard that he was in a hospital in serious condition and passed away on Wednesday (I think I read this on Jon Davies blog). Not sure of the cause...but whoa! Prayers for his family and friends.

From what I've heard from his friends, he passed away as a result of injuries related to severe depression. Depression is a serious disease, and should be treated as such. I've seen first-hand what it can do (and I'm sure others here have too), and I can't stress enough how important it is to seek help. It's as simple as starting with your family doctor.

Dear god! Very sad! I know him from The Storm Report videos I have seen on Youtube, and that he was on "Storm Chasers" on the Discovery Channel last season helping out Sean Casey, and the TIV. What a great person, and it is very sad he has left this earth at a very young age. Very sad in the storm chaser community right now.

ah man, that just makes it even more tragic. Good post Robert, there are lots of ways to get help when one suffers from depression.

If you are feeling really down and blue, please seek help. There are medical reasons for depression that can be addressed. (In my case it was due to a high dose of beta blockers for high blood pressure). I sought help because I recognized what was going on. Please do the same if you think you might have a problem.

I also hate to know the pain his family and friends are going thru.
Put me down as another guy who has dealt with severe depression for over a decade now. For 8 years, I was the typical "man", and just dealt with it. Suicide was always an option to me. Finally, I stopped being a self centered JERK and agreed to seek help. They tried 4-5 different medications that did nothing.....But the next one was the answer. All I needed was a little 20mg pill to change my life. Now, I look back and hate the fact that I lost 10 years of my life. Maybe someday, a person will read these words and it will resonate with them. Pushing them over the line to get help. I came very close to ending my life many times during those dark years. My wife Carmen hung in there, and saved me. I hate it that no one was able to do the same for this young man.

Was he the guy in the 'dog house' vehicle that the TIV crew utilized last season as a forecaster/chaser because Dr Wurman was involves with VORTEX II?

I was shocked and saddened by this news. I met Matt this year at ChaserCon and had a very geeky conversation about Android with him. My thoughts are with his family. He will be greatly missed...RIP

I never met Matt in person but I am more saddened by the fact I never heard a peep about him being in this state than I am shocked by the horrible fact that he has passed.

My condolences to his friends and family and all of that. And I'm sorry, I just have to say this. A few nights ago I learned of Matt's passing after several people had mentioned it on Facebook. I met Matt before at the Chaser Convention and another time while chasing, he was a great guy. I knew many others knew him, met him and were friends of his so I posted the very same announcement on StormTrack that many others made on facebook. I also posted a RIP Matt Hughes on facebook and made a thread on here that simply said Matt had passed away and RIP, yet when I did I got my a&& reamed for doing so. Despite the number of people who made a post about it on Facebook, I was targeted and griped at for announcing it. I don't get it. I saw people posting details of his passing on Facebook, details that in my opinion should be kept private. I didn't mention details other than the fact he passed away, yet I got griped at for it. But whatever. Like I said, I'm sorry for his passing, my thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family.
