Portions of SE Nebraska and NW Missouri are recording readings of 95F temps with dewpoints of 80-83F which is leading to heat index readings of 118-121F. Now that's hot!

It is suppose to get into dangerous humidity this week according to the last bulletin by KPAH NWS... They said potential 110 humidity. I get to work in it, hard labor too but I bid that job so what can I say!

Drink plenty of water folks!

Memphis is now calling their heat wave 'deadly' as dewpoints in the 78-82 range combine with afternoon temps in the 101-104 range look to put HI values in the 115-120 range. You can read their overnight AFD if you dont believe me. That kind of heat and humidity most definately classifies as dangerous and deadly. Was reading on the local page there that theyve already had 7 deaths attributed to the heat. Yesterday a 67yr old man was out mowing his lawn in the afternoon, passed out, and was declared dead at the hospital.

I think the main thing is "67 years old". Most younger people can tolerate extreme heat for at least short durations. If you don't work in it, there's absolutely no reason to be outside. You can mow in the morning or evening. I've never understood people who hang out in hot sun just "because". I never go outside on weekends. People always say "how come you never go anywhere?" I say "Because I get more sun than all of you put together between Mon-Fri every week."

Keep the heat coming down there, its fueling some fun "ring of fire" storms for us here in the midwest. I think this morning I sat through one of the best positive stroke CG barrages I can recall in a long time. I say let the pattern thrive =-D

Although we have had our share of "hot" as well. Its no 100s but Chicago set a new record for consecutive days above 80 just now plus we've had more 90s than the last 2 summers [maybe even 3] combined and there is no end in sight!

Heat doesn't bother me as long as I can dress for it. Shorts and a wife beater and I can stay out there all day. What I dont miss is having to walk around downtown wearing jeans and a collared shirt in this weather...when I used to work in downtown Chicago people would be walking around in full suits and I just didn't get it...if I had to do that I would probably burst into flames right then and there.

Here just across the KS line from KJLN we've had heat indices over 100 for almost a solid month now. I live on the Spring River and Saturday I went down for a swim to cool off. Didn't work. Even the water temps are over 90. It's like a natural hot tub. I don't really mind the heat in fact I just went for a four mile walk a few minutes ago. Today we have a good south wind. We usually don't have even a breeze and it gets pretty oppressive. The biggest problem is it isn't cooling off at night. Staying close to 80 so it's hard to get any relief without A/C.

I understand the concern about excessive heat, and realize how extreme that is, but is it really a potentially fatal mistake to go outside? I've never felt those levels of Heat Index so I'm not going to compare, I'm just asking - but have you been able to venture out at all?

Just another summer in Oklahoma. It's uncomfortable like it is every July/August but it doesn't stop many from doing their daily stuff. I remember a few years back we had almost a full month of 100+ temps so it's hard to complain about a few days of it so far this year.

I work in downtown Memphis, and this heat is as bad as I can remember. I think we had something similar back in the 80s maybe. There have been 9 deaths tagged as "heat related" so far... people simply not taking precautions. =/

Can't wait for fall.

Well the Summer heat wave looks to be coming to an end this week as a major pattern change will be taking place but not before parts of the Plains, South, and Midwest experience two more triple digit days with heat indices near 110. A couple cities in this region are on record watch to break their record high temps. Memphis and Dallas/Ft. Worth are just two of the cities that could break their record high temps over the next two days.

Heres a graphic from TWC depicting todays high temps.
