Ignorance of few affect the many

I still think the tour group was to close but I don't feel they should be boycotted because of one mistake. We all make mistakes. I think they deserve a second chance in the storm chaser community. After all what happened to them could happen to anyone of us.

You already know the answer to that one. If I ran a chase tour I would not be sitting at my computer argueing about this. My point is people can think they are safe and still end up in a bad position. Even people who try to be as safe as possible can end up in an accident. We can't out a tour company just because of 1 accident they had. Give them a chance to learn from their mistakes and move on.

You did it on your own... If it's been "around the corner" for "years now" then that's a freaking long corner.
Just because it hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean that I'm wrong. And whomever spoke of the "boogeyman"....in my view, the boogeymen in this country are out-of-control lawmakers.

Is there anything left on that horse to beat? Seems like it should be vaporized by now.

Now on topic, seems like this has turned more in to a political argument about whether or not regulation on chasing will happen. I dont see how it could be enforced, but I suppose that doesnt mean they won't try. Just doesn't seem feasible.

As for the tour company, everyone knew the fast motions, how volitile the system was etc. Putting themselves and guests in the position they were in and even thinking about moving up is just disturbing. But it is what it is.

He would've done it anyways, it's a brave thing to start this dialogue on ST versus Facebook where it has exploded among everyone. To the contrary, you should choose a company with the nerve to speak out against unethical practices within the industry because at least then you don't run the risk of finding out on your own.

Very well said Paul. Not only because I agree with it, but because it's also very true.

Because it won't. I have seen people suggest this as far back as 1999, and here it is 2010 and we've yet to see any regulation. We see this topic come up year after year, yet it never happens. And it won't. It will come up in 2011, 2012 and all the years after, but it will never happen.

Holy Smokes! The last time I was THAT confident about ANYTHING was when I was 15. I can't even remember what it was that I'd blurted out, but it must have been a doozy. But I definitely remember my late Father, always wise beyond his years, sat back in his chair and looked me dead in the eyes and said......"son, the older you get...the more you're gonna realize just how stupid you just sounded."
True story.

How, logistically, would you even begin to draft and enforce some sort of an anti-chasing law that is amorphous and inane at the crux of its own intent?

Trying to enforce anti-chasing legislation would be very cumbersome at best. If anything, the more logical outcome would be for law enforcement to just take a zero tolerance attitude and write any supposed chaser for any and all traffic violations that are observed, and if you talk to some on here and elsewhere, this already happens in some locales. Police discretion can be a very powerful tool, especially when supposedly sizable numbers of drivers generally commit a traffic violation within a short stretch of driving.

I see no way any anti-chasing law would ever make it past the initial discussion stage; it's just too vague and would require far too many resources to be properly implemented to punish those who really are exercising an assumed freedom to follow the wind.

Old age has gotten to you, Matthew isn't even a storm chaser. :D

I have been out chasing three times now and I have a good chase vehicle but college takes up a lot of my time. However I will be done with college by next spring. 2011 here I come :)

I think I am ready. I joined this site in 2006 and learned a lot and I have read a lot of books.
