Identify the tornado — part II

The information with the photo said it was Vashon Island, 1972. I believe Vashon Island is also known as Maury (sp) Island. Vashon is located in King County a short ferry ride from West Seattle, where I lived at the time, and the southern tip of the Island is very near Pierce County. The photo came from a science teachers website, so I don’t know how accurate it is. It sounds by the description, that your information is probably correct. Good job Simon! You get to post next!

Sorry about the delay. DING DING DING Bob is correct in identifying this as the Saylor Park tornado, one of six F5's of the Super Outbreak, and the most photographed/filmed of the 148. You can read more about the outbreak and particularly this tornado at:-

4 persons have contributed amazing photographs of the tornado at this page, incl the pic I posted.

Wow, Simon. I've seen a fair number of Saylor Park photos, but that large series is new to me, and so are the photos directly after it beginning with the hail. Looks like the funnel was pretty close to the photographer.

I've got something up my sleeve that I don't think you'll find on the Net. Stay tuned. :violent2:

Really?! The only photographs I've seen are these and the ones on april31974.com, scan your additional Saylor Park images ASAP LOL would kill to see them.

Just keep them photographs coming, historical tornado photos are drawn to me like light to a black hole LOL.

Simon

OK, I got some good ones — they're a little low-res, but I didn't scan them . . . don't shoot the messenger . . .

And I did get them from part of the NOAA Photo Library, I'll tell you that now — but you'll find that just following the URL on the properties shall be of no use as the dates and locations aren't listed, but I know what they are anyway as I've seen them elsewhere. Checkmate.

Good luck!

Patience, patience, Simon!

I'm glad Thomas has posted something--don't wait for me, y'all, though I promise you an image. I'm not being coy, just need to make a printout, scan it, then post it. There's probably a shorter way if I were a little more computer savvy. Meanwhile, if someone else has something, then by all means keep the ball rolling. I should have something sometime this coming week.
