• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Scott - Lightning & high voltage power lines!! It's a beautiful thing 8). I go after that sometimes too. I got escorted by security once trying to pull a shot like that. Did you hear the cracking & popping? A power line was really firing up for me one night in Sublette, KS. Green wintergreen Lifesaver sparks

Greg - that BLUE is incredible. Just after sunset I sometimes see the sky make that color and during Monsoon it's a photo op to be sure. I was on a storm in Cave Creek, AZ once and the sky made this electric purple I have never seen anywhere else...print, TV, neon tube, nothing matched it. Sometimes the sky does that. It is astonishing and a lucky moment when you get that on film. Nice work!

This was shot a few years ago just off a rural highway in open farmland. I definitely heard the cracking and popping travelling down the lines as lightning would flash close by; it's a very eerie, disquieting sound, yet quite cool. A nearly mile long stretch of these high-voltage transmission towers was downed just a couple miles from that location by an intense tornado on 10 May 2003.

Thanks to all of you for sharing such photos of stunning magnificance; I could feel my spirit soar as I viewed them.
These are examples as to why I consider an interception of ANY spectacular storm as a successful intercept.
Any why I personally do not use the word "junk" to define storms that are non-rotating.

That's the nicest way to describe looking at lightning! I think people have been fascinated with lightning since humans invented storm gods.

I totally agree. For myself, tornadoes are icing, unless I'm out there specifically to chase tornadoes. The only major ingredient I require in the perfect storm is separation of charge 8)

This is the shot that gives me chills every time I look at it. I remember my reaction when I saw it the first time  What I like about it so much is that the lightning is so close yet so clear. I always get excited when I get a close/clear one where I can really see what's going on. That is incredibly awesome (if I'm not mistaken you shot it from indoors? That's a good thing :o )

This is simply spectacular!!

Thanks Dan for adding your awesome lightning rocking CGs!!!

Sometimes colors can only happen in nature. That blue is awesome. I'm trying to think of a where else that color can be found...all I can think of is the gem Tanzanite. But that's a product of nature too. Getting lightning in a blue background like that just makes a photograph. Blues are always my favorite. In fact, when I go to art shows, I find that alot of people are drawn to blue. I don't know why that is. I even know a photographer that specializes in blue. Nice job!

This is my first daylight lightning from this year:

[Broken External Image]:http://www.weather-photos.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/18_05_2005mk.jpg

It was really dark while the storm was approaching so I had chance to use time of exposure around 0.5s and got some luck I guess :D

Do any of you taking pics during day, too? There is a problem because you have aperture value over f/20 to get longer times of course, I used f/36 for this image. So actually its immposible to get whole lightning, you get just the main strike. It helps to have a polarizer, too.

Marko

I now have to add some of the best shots I've ever taken thanks due to my Digital Canon A85! They look terrific! I nabbed these on May 18, 2005 in Southeastern Kansas!!!

Hi Everyone,

I love lightning! The photos on this thread are awesome! I started out chasing storms in order to photograph lightning and it was only after a few years that I progressed to storm structure as well. We don't get many tornados down here in Australia so lightning and structure are the go for me. I would also like to to say that one thing i've noticed about our storms is that the weaker dryer storms often produce the best lightning. This photo is a classic example of this. It was a weak afternoon storm with not much rain and as a result I was able to get the sunset exposed which resulted in the awesome colours.
