CHASE PARTNER THREAD for 2008

Attn Colorado Chasers

I'm located in Greeley Colorado, I chase with another guy on most occasions, hes a met grad from unc. I have an 06 trailblazer with hail guards, wx worx, weather alert system. Just looking for people in Colorado so that on occasions we can pool or convoy. Sometimes I chase alone, and its better to have a couple other chasers along to navigate, help with gas, and enjoy the trip, so it would be good for us Colorado chasers to meet up at times trade off on who's vehicle we take or convoy our teams! I'm more than happy to take severe weather enthusiasts people with me. I am experienced and successful.

Moderately experienced, mature chase enthusiast (7 years, ~12 chase weeks, late 50s currently retired transportation professional) interested in partnering this season to share expenses and driving -- my vehicle or yours. Can meet someone heading east in NM or southern Plains; or someone coming east from LA or San Diego could meet me coming through the Phoenix area.

I drive a Ford Focus sedan and come with Sirius radio, amped Verizon aircard, wireless-G hotspot, 60w dual-band, 40Ah mobile battery/inverter, GPS, and notebook computer swivel-mounted for driver and co-pilot use. All equipment is easily transfered between vehicles.

Times are currently very flexible and could be event-driven, but April -- mid-May is preferable.

I'm looking for a chase partner for sometime In Late May and early June. Not sure of the exact dates yet. I'll have a better idea when I find someone who wants to chase with.

I have the military equivalant to a met degree with the navy as an avation forecaster and have studied up on chasing. Yet this will be my first time doing so. So anyone who wants to join in and help me out just let me know!

Hello,
I am looking for a chase partner since I lost my previous partner to a move.
Prefer someone from the southwest part of Missouri. Springfield or Joplin area's are even better since I live outside of Springfield.

I have a quad cab pickup equiped with ham radio and a laptop with an Alltel aircard.

I'm pretty laid back. I smoke but not in my vehicles or house and I'm a Paramedic. I chase based on my work schedule but am taking vacation the two weeks around mothers day. Many chases are spur of the moment, hence why I prefer local folks.

Hey all with the price of gas spiraling out of control I thought I would see about linking up with a chase buddy or buddies. I am located in Killeen, TX. So I am looking to linkup with someone in central TX. I chase anything worthy on the weekends and can sometimes get away early enough to chase TX during the week. I am also looking at having a week or two in June dedicated to a chasing trip.

I have a Dodge Ram single cab so I can only fit one but would also be willing to be a passenger. In my truck I have HAM, CB, GPS and Computer with 3G. So if anyone in central TX is looking for someone to ride with or has an empty seat they are looking to fill PM me and we can split the cost of these outrageous gas prices.

i have a regular chase partner but i took June 9-16 off from work and am hoping to break in my newly equipped car so if anyone from the upper midwest wants to get out and meet up with me in that time i would be happy to do it. new laptop, 2000 Ford Focus, internet, GPS, GRlevel3. I listen to rock/rap on the way out/back from a chase, i try to keep it down during the chase and listen to the WX radio. Not sure right now if i will be chasing with my regular partner, wont know till the day of the chase. All i ask is you pay for you share of the gas, otherwise not many rules. PM if you're interested.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Chris and I'm a novice at storm chasing and have only been out a few times with some friends. I don't have a lot to offer you, except to offer some company and split gas costs. I'm 20 years old and I'm currently on an internship in St. Joseph, MO until the end of July. I drive a gas guzzling pickup. I have a laptop, but don't have any software or data collection services set up.

I would be interested in chasing the quad-state area of MO, KS, NE, and IA. I'd rather not chase more than a few hundreds miles at a time, but I'm definitely up for local chases. If a big event is forecast over the NW MO, NE KS, SE NE, and SW IA areas, I might be able to chase an afternoon/evening during the week. Otherwise weekends if I'm available would work for me.

If you're interested in letting me tag along for a chase, feel free to send me a PM!

Thanks,

Chris Strunk

Hello all, my name is Chris Hovanic and I moved to the Kansas City area last summer to take a meteorologist position at a local private forecasting company. This is my first full Spring in the Plains, however I've taken chase vacations out here the past 3 years.

As a result of a post last summer in the 2007 Chase Partner thread I have one or two potential people in the KC area to chase with, but always looking for new folks either locally or people to meet up with at a specific destination. I have rotating shifts and my work schedule is fixed, however I do have 4 consecutive days off and 4 of 5 days off, so would allow for plenty of mini-chase trips this spring provided an active pattern continues.

Own a laptop, GPS, GRLevel3, MetWise Net...have always chased with people who do the photography/videography, if you own the equipment/are good with this, that would be a huge plus.

Hi, everyone. I live in California but will be making my annual storm-chasing trip to the central and southern plains some time between now and early June. I go on the spur of the moment, getting the next flight out when the 1-3-day forecast looks particularly juicy, and I typically stay for 3-4 days. Though I have decent severe-storm knowledge for a layman, I’m not at the level of the expert chasers. However, I am considerate and easy to get along with. I prefer to chase with a partner because of the company, the opportunity to put our heads together, and the fact that it’s a two-person job when things get going.

If you’d like to chase, please PM me. I’ll let you know when I’m making my trip, and if I’m in your area maybe we can link up. The extent of my equipment is my weather radio and iPhone with Internet access, but hey, we can take my rental car and let that get destroyed by the hail!

Central TX - Pflugerville, TX

I have my own vehicle: Blue Toyota Tacoma 4-Door 4x4 TRD-Off Road, Ham radio equip., Scanner, GRLevel3 with NMEA GPS, secondary Garmin Nuvi 220w & Delorme Earthmate GPS, Laptop with mobile internet, cell, RAM Mount laptop holders, inverters, truck mounted weather station using only the thermo-hydro & anemometer, & a bunch of other small stuff a normal chaser carries.

I am not really "looking" to be with anyone persey, as I do everything myself (forecasting, driving, reporting etc) and don't necessarily need that, however, I would like to know who is around this area (Central Texas) who does the same as me. If the person is right and available for chases I wouldn't mind 1 or more coming with me to split gas money or follow. It would be nice though if you are able to understand the full scale of what happens before, during, and after a chase and know at least some of the ropes so you could help when needed and not freak out over things like distance, danger, & going pee to name a few. Ham radio operator a plus for sure.

So, if you have some experience and maybe no experience given the right setup for storms, and lots of experience even, write me, call me, email me or whatever. It's always good to know people. I do know there are lots of people out there that are really excited by severe weather but don't know how to harness the energy and do everything yourself or even get started. I am empathetic becuase I was there at one time too and that same energy is what drives me to do what I do. So I don't count out taking a newbie, but the person has to be right for me.

I'll be coming from Hawaii to chase in May. I was originally planning on the last 3 wks., but am available for 2-3 wks. any time during May, as long as I'm able to leave before June 1. I'm 36 yrs. old, Skywarn spotter, photographer. Last year was my 1st trip to the Plains. Because I'm a beginner, I prefer someone w/ more chasing/forecasting experience than me.

I'll be chasing May 25th through May 31st. I've been studying for a year so I have a limited knowledge of forecasting and utilizing internet resources. My current plan is to fly in to DFW, rent a mid-size SUV, and take it from there. But that is subject to change. If someone would like a relief on the cost of gas, I'd be willing to do a ride-a-long in your vehicle, or have you come with. This is my first chasing trip. My father will be with me as well so if we're taking your vehicle we'd need room for both of us. We are both very clean professionals and if we find a very experienced chaser, we may be willing to pay for full gas in exchange for expertise. Neither of us will be a hinderance when it comes to getting up close and personal with a storm.

If that week of chasing is of interest to you, and/or if you'd just like to meet up and do a caravan, shoot me a pm and we'll begin our planning and find a meeting place. I'm excited to get out on the road and see the beauty and awe of nature.
