agreed on difficulty

It's not "too difficult" to do...

it's just a matter of time.

The best case scenario is a programmer with the chops to build a GR style app would simply cut an agreement with GR to make it happen, equitable terms for profit-sharing are established and life goes on.

I think we all know that iphone and droid versions of GR would sell quite well in this community... and yes I'd pay more than $1.99 for it.

I'm guessing Tyler would have no problem gearing up a data stream to support it all.

I would guess that there would likely need to be a bare-minimum for hardware... but who cares... this isn't a game or place for low-budget kids... it's a serious business with serious tools and for those who need it, and can afford an iphone or android phone, likely have the means to afford said app.

The O/S is just slightly modified Linux that's how people were so quick to create custom ROMS, tethering, overclocking....

According to an email I received today from F5Data, F5App is still in development.

I picked up a LG Ally over the weekend and love it.

Bump--I just entered the smartphone era with a Droid X from Verizon. Got a great deal--$100 back from their New Every Two program and $50 off at the store, so the X was about $50.

I've never even sent a text message before, so my clumsiness with it can't be overstated, but I'm looking forward to the radar apps, among other things.

I just got a Samsung Captivate for $.96 at Sams on Black Friday!! LOL that is all... looking for some weather apps.

Christopher,
MyCast weather is definitely worth a few bucks. By far the best weather app I have found. Very quick to navigate and easy to use. There are several useful features on it like surface data, panning/motion radar, satellite, and more. I messed around with the others but deleted them and just use this.

Mike Brady has some neat ones too. I have not checked out his radar app yet, but he has several others. The SPC one is nice to have quick access to the outlooks, but you can't toggle back and forth. You have to reload the program. Either way, its a great start by Mike to make chaser-friendly/useful apps. Support a fellow chaser and get his stuff too.

Just fyi for those that didnt see the new radar app thread, There is a new radar app called pykl3 (pronounced Pickle, not sure why the dev named it that lol). It is actually very good in my opinion and I like it so far. Runs smooth on my Droid Eris sporting Gingerbread Android 2.3. :D

From what I've heard, the 2.3 ROMs that are out now are mostly just dev roms. Very buggy and rough.

Same here. I have an unlocked HTC HD2 that I can dual boot WM 6.5 and Android. I gave Gingerbread a go a few days ago but went back to 2.2 because it is buggy, laggy and some of the hardware wasn't working (GPS, accelerometer, etc).

The roms I've seen are derived from the recently released Gingerbread SDK and not ripped from actual devices. Basically, the image from the SDK has to be patched because it doesn't have the necessary drivers to run on most devices (at least my HD2). We should see more functional roms when an image can be ripped from the Nexus S (released next week)....unless something gets leaked earlier of course.

I'm on ATT right now and gonna jump to Verizon when they release their latest and greatest in Q1 2011. Hoping the rumors for the Motorola Etna and/or Samsung Stealth (SCH-i510) are real and end up on big red ;).

Yuup, me too on the Etna although I hear the same version of that phone will be on ATT code named Everest at the moment. I think the Etna will be LTE enabled and I'm not sure the Everest will be? I'd love to pair me up the Etna and the Moto tablet Stingray. They use such cheesy code names hahaha...

From what I've seen the Everest is actually rumored to be a 10" tablet launching on Verizon with LTE. This article talks about it and man does it look awesome: http://www.droid-life.com/2010/12/08/motorola-everest-tablet-high-res-pictures/ Based on the article it sounds like the Everest, Stingray and Droid tablet are the same device.

The Moto Olympus is the Etna like phone for ATT which is supposed to launch before the Etna. I've read the Olympus will launch on ATT in January while the Etna will be March, maybe February (fingers crossed!) on big red.

The code names can be pretty cheesy and a pain to keep track of. Anyhow, the Etna and Everest would be a pretty sweet combo if the rumors hold true! Hopefully we'll know for sure following the CES which goes from Jan 6-9th.
