I second that, Ryan! We need a developer to do GR2 / GR3 apps for the Android platform!

I was just checking for fun what other weather apps are out on the Android Market. There is a radar program called Radar Now!

The information page says: '"Radar Now!" is designed to be fast, efficient and have limited options. Adding more options would slow down this program significantly, so if you are looking for a full featured weather program, we recommend "Weatherbug" for those features...You'll be seeing National Weather Service Enhanced Radar Images from the National Doppler Radar Sites located around the US. The radar site displayed is the closest to your location.'

Since it is minimalist, I notice there is no menu action to set any kind of prefs. Seems the only thing that should be included is an option to choose if you want animation on or not. That is the only thing *I* personally see wrong with it. Not everyone wants/needs animated radar. Double tapping the screen only restarts the app. I am gonna see if there is a trick to it..

Otherwise, it is pretty good. I will more than likely be sending a rating with a comment to request this feature in future versions. I will next be checking out Weatherbug as well.

I have my motorola droid now and aside from a widespread issue with the camera have focusing problems in dim conditions it works perfectly. I installed the PDAnet 2.01 software on Windows7 and the internet is considerably faster than my blackberry 8830 was.

I already closed my Allison account for the winter so I can't really gauge how fast level 2 data will be.

I have the Radar Now! app as well and I like it. Give me a few hours and though to download the rest listed on the market place to figure which is the best.

[ADD ON]

Well the 2 best apps for the (an)droid are the mentioned Radar Now!, iMap Weather, and Weatherbug. Everything else that I found on the market place is pretty much useless because they either was for android v1.6 and wouldn't run or they was just the basics (temp, wind, precep.).

iMap had the most features with lightning strikes displayed. But I'd have to wait for a storm system to kick up to see how fast it updates.

just downloaded the Radar Now app to my HTC. Not bad!
Animation would be a nice addition, but the full-screen display is okay.
Cannot zoom in as much as I'd like.

I'll say this though in regard to the HTC Hero - the camera on this thing SUCKS !!! (sigh)
Gotta have a lot of light to get smooth (30fps) video, or the shutter slows down so bad everything is strobed and looks like 10fps video. Yuk!

Got my Droid today! Loving it so far. The only problem I'm having at the moment is setting up my Yahoo email account. I'm gonna head over to HoFo and see if I can clear that issue up. Anyone get any of the accessories yet? I'm thinking about getting the windshield mount for the car as that would come in handy while chasing. Super super excited though...I love getting a new phone!

I've got the call the car mount. It's a suction cup mount that has a very nice form fitting holder. Only issue with that is you have to take it out of any cases to snap it into the holder. Mine didn't come with a charging cable but if you get one of those USB power plugs you can use the USB cable that came with the phone. Some said that got a cable but mine didn't have it listed on the contents list.

Oh, don't get the body glove case. It's nice and protective, but getting it out of that case is a real pain in the rear.

I've got a phantom skin which is a nice thick plastic coating that you apply to the phone. It's sort of a static cling type film that you have to get wet to install, squeeze out the air bubbles then let it dry. If you've seen those clear 3M plastic coatings that put on cars around the fenders it's the same stuff. It is a bit challenging to install since some of the side strips have to bend around the edges.

I just ordered the car suction cup, windshield thingy. They didn't have any in stock at the Verizon store but ordered it for me with free shipping to my house. Also, I solved the Yahoo email issue as well thanks to the HowardForums. Now I'm just waiting around until chase season to see if my tethering will be through PDAnet or through VZW Access Manager.

It's going to be very interesting to see what comes out now. I'm hoping that NEMA over USB surfaces now that the rest of the android community don't have to wait on v2.

Got my Droid the other day and it has performed really well through PDA.net. Does anyone know if the there is a big difference in speed and reliability between the VZW Access Manager and PDA.net? Just wondering if it would be worth the extra monthly price when the VZW comes out next year.
Great phone BTW! The only major complaint I have is with the battery life. You can download a free app though called the "Advanced Task Killer" which alows you to turn aps off (most of them run continously) and saves a lot of battery power.

The Droid has now officially been rooted. I'm not saying you should do this BUT it certainly opens up the possibilities on this phone...Hmm:D

I finally got my G1 rooted and the tethering is pretty decent. I have both wired and wireless tether options. They are power drainers (G1 was never had great battery life to begin with) but wired is a good option if you do not have access to external AC power sources to charge the phone while using wireless tethering. It sure as hell beats 2005 with my Nokia 3650 w/ bluetooth dongle setup. :P

The speeds should be just about identical whether you are using access manager or pdanet. I've found that the only thing that really slowed me down last year when I was tethering my BB Storm was signal strength. My cell booster helped in that regard though and I cannot remember a single time where I was with out signal of some sort. VZW rocks!
