I figured it was time to start the thread, as the first TOR Watch box has gone up in W. Nebraska & Black Hills region of South Dakota. The dryline is getting more pronounced in KS south through OK into TX, with the first returns in this region eminent in the next hour.

We are currently sitting just south of Shamrock on top of a very nice hill with a good view. Expecting storm development in the next hour or hour and a half. Very nice cu field all around us. Will probably stay here until some biggers towers begin to go up and go from there. Love the moisture and CAPE prettty much all throughout this are. I am with Tyler Costantini and Mike Scantlin. We will be on the spotter network on GRLevel3.

The LCL's look like they are fairly high in the western portions of the watch in Nebraska. They look a little better to the north around the Black Hills region and on the eastern side of the watch. It may take a little while for some storms in western Nebraska to move into a better environment.

Parts of the eastern portion of the Texas panhandle look pretty good right now.

PDS Tornado Watch #82 finally up for Texas Panhandle and points south. CU developing on backside of cloud deck near Lubbock.

In the meantime, severe warned cells in Nebraska as that area begins to go... going to be a busy day.

While those lucky enough to be in the panhandle are enjoying themselves I'm here in Cambridge NE waiting for something to go, appears we have some CU begining to grow on the DL in E CO however LCL's are way high out there and the parameters dont look good until you get a ways E of the boarder.

New MD from SPC is indicating the likely issuance of a new TOR watch with specific wording for strong tornadoes over west Kansas as well. Loving the looks of visible satellite over west texas/kansas especially with developing cu fields... Effective layer SIGTOR at 3 just E/SE of lubbock...and rapidly diminishing CIN...look out. Someone's catching a tor today.

I'm virtually coming through Canadian now. Wasting no time as the nose of mid-60s dews is ahead of me. Vis shows good insolation ahead and primed Cu field. Composites are running a little behind Truth IMHO. US60 to US283 and on toward DDC.

Today

Still sitting in North Platte NE with the dryline just to my west. Temps are in the mid to upper 60s with a dewpoint around 56F and partly sunny skies. A tornado watch for Kansas and extreme southern Nebraska looks to be issued shortly.:D

Widely scattered stratocu trucking SSE to NNW overhead in Hays KS. I'm really loving the milky overcast cirrus deck and the surface temperatures stalling around 70F, lol. Looks like the GFS depiction from last night is panning out, with pretty much everything about 50 miles farther to the west than progged by the NAM.

A hole in the cirrus deck over Ford county has revealed some persistent, assumedly sfc-based cumulus trying to grow. This would be ideal for me, since it's directly downstream from my position 1-1.5 hours. Alas, I'm afraid the better chance for convection will be tied to the 700mb cooling, which won't overspread my longitude for a few more hours, and by that time I have to head back.

Darin Brunin and Marcus Opitz are just now entering Trego County KS. A Cu field seems to be thickening up in extreme E CO and into the Western counties of KS. Also, a cu field seems to be developing within the cirrus just north of DDC, which might be a thing to keep an eye on.

For those interested in Darin's live webcam, it can be viewed here:

Pretty healthy CU field in all directions I can see from here in Plainview, TX. Watching some areas of CU trying to enhance nearby. In good striking position though so I am happy. I think I have scared half the population here now judging by the number of people that have stopped wanting info.

EDIT: as well as to my immediate west!

The area just to the east of AMA and LBB are of particular interest to me. If we can get some storms going there, I'd expect a good chance for a strong tornado. Moisture is maximized there, it is east of the dryline and the shear and thermodynamics are excellent, including the lowest LCL's in the area (near 1000).

I'd be watching the area from Motley County, TX up through Guymon, OK for a very active afternoon and evening.

EDIT: The cumulus/Convergence field west of Amarillo appears to becoming more active. A line of convergence is evident on AMA doppler.

KAMA 088D showing development now in Gray County, Texas with one cell in the central part of the county and another in the southwest tip of the county. Also there's additional development occurring between Plainview and Lubbock on I-27. Watch these areas for storms in the next 30 minutes.

I think the echo near Gray County is part of the "junk" precip. that has been nearby for hours. I don't see this cell erupting. However, brand new eruption is now starting to occur over Floyd County and Briscoe County, TX.

PS: Interesting to see the 2 degree cap between 750mb and 800mb on the 18z AMA sounding.

I don't see anything really solid yet, looking at visible satellite...but I would agree that the next half hour to an hour things will begin to "pop" so to speak. The convergence line is looking tasty as an allsups burrito, but east of Lubbock looks like chocolate cherry cake with mint ice cream... got to LOVE those paramaters. but still don't have quite the oomph just yet. I agree on a half hour to an hour yet till major initiation.
