3/24/07 FCST: KS/OK/TX Pan

So much for our insolation. I'm in Goodland, where the skies filled with overcast 5kft self-destruct stratocumulus over an hour ago. Drove down to Sharon Springs for kicks, and the bases are probably half that. Strong band of dpva/ascent approaching me per water vapor loop, yet nothing is happening. Not shocking considering the apparent lack of low-level instability. Time for a short nap.

Chris Wilburn and I are sitting near Pizza Hut in Oberlin Kansas just waiting things out, we have a cu-field and some sun shining through

Can we include a little corner of CO in this post? Actually, just a wi-fi stop in Wray then to the KS border. I like the way the lower wind fields are turning cyclonically to the tri-border region as well as lower to mid level jet screaming north. Might be a little landspout action as well? 63 deg temp/48 deg dpt/broken skies w/blue sky poking thru.
Good luck to all chasing today!

Looks like the evolution of the surface lee low will be a key for potential this afternoon into evening. RUC persists in consolidation of a surface low center in extreme E Central CO. However, circulations around a center in SE NE have persisted, and the low center over NW New Mexico earlier this morning now appears very diffused, so now we have a rather positive-tilted trough at the surface w/ winds even veering a bit across the northern tier of western KS counties. Hopefully, the influence of the H5 trough will consolidate and deepen a dominant surface low over the next couple of hours to create some weather.

To pick a virtual target now, I guess I would be setting up in Scott City, KS, at the intersection of U.S. 83 and KS 96. That appears to be just below the apex of theta-e and instability ridge over the next few hours, and SE of the progged surface low - it is probably a bit south and east of initiation, but that would allow the most flexible approach.

If anyone might need some nowcasting support today, just PM me as I'll be around watching.

Sitting at the Days Inn in Russell, KS. Probably going to get a bite to eat and wait just a little longer before we make a decision to head north.

EDIT: Probably going to stay in Russell and wait and hope the dryline fires to our SW in the clearing area.
