05/11/05 Talk: Central/Southern Plains

Amos Magliocco, Scott Eubanks, and myself are camped out in Colby, Kansas after a 600 mile round trip starting from Salina.... storms south of Colby are making a lot of noise but look as if they'll skirt us as we appear to be just behind them... will definately keep us awake for an hour or so... very very windy...

And Jon M; my phone died when you called me and I haven't found my charger... we saw nothing of interest today nd am curious as to where you went as we all did split quickly after leaving Colby...

From the reports we have received and based on 88D data, we believe there was a significant, long track tornado (perhaps a "wedge") that developed very near the city of Ulysses, tracking all the way to the county line of Kearny. This may have been one continuous, long track tornado, or may have been a small family... but there was a period around 9pm CDT when we had 3 consecutive volume scans show >= 100kts gate-to-gate shear couplet associated with the reflectivity hook echo. We will be doing a survey tomorrow to find a track and any damage.

Thanks for the image!! I was worried about Garden City but I guess the storm weakened. I haven't seen any damage reports and it appeared to weaken. I hope some chasers were on that possible wedge but it may have been to dark.

(Please, save some storms for me!!!)
