Mike's pics and Dr. Erik R's "Blob" phenomenon

The image below is of the same feature looking almost exactly 3 miles to the due east of Verne and Tony's location on the dam. This perspective shows the well established RFD occlusion. I don't like the \"waterspout\" labelling, that's just the meteorologist in me... but this is obviously a supercell tornado, very weak albeit, but an obvious different process from a waterspout off the Floriday Keys, for instance. Just a supercell tornado over water, that's all ;-)

Mike's pics do not only capture the classic RFD feature associated with supercell tornado genesis, but also provide an excellent visual example of
Dr. Erik Rasmussin's "Blob" phonemon. In the later M.U. pic from his link below, notice the opposing cyclonic (tornado) and anticyclonic (funnel) circulations. The "Blob" would have descended in the vicinity of the latter feature just prior to the genesis of the tornado.

I did a quick look at the chances of seeing a WATERSPOUT in Kansas as several chasers, including myself, saw in Trego County over Cedar Bluff Reservoir.

Some Kansas Geography Facts...
Data collected from Netstate (Kansas)

...the chance of seeing a WATERSPOUT in Kansas is...

.56% x .75% ~ .0004%

I'm going to start playing Powerball, beating odds like that

I finally completed my dedicated album page to this event which is on my website (www.underthemeso.com) at

http://www.underthemeso.com/gallery/view_a...mName=2005apr10

Included are a detailed chase route map, 39 stills and 2 videos, each about 3 minutes long... the first is of the high-contrast tornado south of Ogallah looking northwest, and the second video is of the fairly large tornado southwest of Russell a little over an hour later.

Excellent documentation on these Tornadoes Mike! I especially like your map details. I sure wish we had headed east on I-70 instead of north into the dirt roads of northern KS! :(

Mike,

You couldn't have been too far behind Kyle and I on I-70... our route from Wakenney (including the short jog north) to Waldo is pretty much exactly the same, 'cept we stopped in Walker to wait the non-tornatic storm to pass. That rainbow shot is almost exactly the same one I have (hitting I-70).

I am done and I've given up trying to salvage the video I took while driving down Dobbs Rd in eastern Oklahoma County. Somehow I hit some buttons while driving and which caused a more grainy video and of course this happened when the best views where appearing between ne 15th and ne 24th. Oh well live and learn but I sure miss my old Canon 8mm for night stuff.

Here is about the best grab from Dobbs road and north of ne15th I believe. Since I didn't plan a chase in OKC ,I didn't load the OKC area map on my PDA for the GPS to save memory and there for I was hendered some on exact locations
