There was a great lightning storm here last week. I was finally able to get a shot I've wanted for awhile, a lightning self portrait.

These were from my first attempt to take lightning pictures at night. I think the first one is the best I've done, the facebook likes disagree. Need to work on focus in the future. And mine look bad against the amazing shots above but I'm proud of them!

I've never seen this thread before, very cool stuff. I shouldn't even include my pictures on here because the quality doesn't even compare to the pics that everyone else has posted in here, but what the hell, they are just iPhone video captures of lightning that I got. I enjoy lightning a lot, although it scares the hell out of me while chasing.
It's a tie for me:
July 3, 2014, the day I finally photographed lightning in daylight after six years of trying, using one of them fancy lightning triggers. The reaction the video caught is kinda funny, hearing myself freak out after catching the bolt on a still.

How close do you plant to get?
I've had shots estimated within a half mile, but would prefer at least a 5 mile minimum. That shot I was tucked in the hatch of my car. I left soon after. I love lightning, but I'm terrified of it.Similar threads
