LOL not really, honestly it really doesn't matter all that much to me, three things just happened to come together to make it seem like I REALLY care; First thing, I just straight up enjoy debating, secondly I first saw the poll/thread late Friday night after a few libations, making me even more up for a debate, and thirdly the initial posts attempting to petition for the idea, really lacked a good credible reason, despite the fact there may be a few.

Unlike Dustin I can't say my argument is because I enjoy debating. I just think it is nonsense. Photography has nothing to with weather or chasing it is just a side gig everyone thinks is a must these days. If you want to post your pics store them on your own server and link them to the areas they belong - --> Post-storm Discussion <-- . That is the only place links to weather related images and video needs to be on this board.

Here is what will happen - people will start posting images of there dogs, cats, the freaking wild game the just shot, and the list will go on and on. And most of all it will make everyone scroll down even more.

One person already pulled the oldest trick out of their arsenal of dumb comebacks and said "Well just don't look at it". To bad, I would have to see it by default. The sad thing is I already have to scroll down to see the ever growing sections this board already has.

Just because the poll results are 40/13 means crap to me and I sure won't kneel to the masses. I hope the board owners vote against this if it ever comes up in their meetings. This is complete nonsense.

I think it's close-minded to think that photography has nothing to do w/chasing. How can one accurately document a severe weather event? I would think photography/video might have something to do with that.
Not everyone is out there to document a severe weather event via photography, and they are not even close to being correlated, I could go out and be just as successful chasing without a camera as I could with, chasing and photography are completely separate hobbies/professions, *some* folks just choose to partake in both hobbies; Even if photography was a direct necessity for chasing (again its not) there is still no justifiable argument for a **open** photography section on a chasing forum. I think some posts in here are directed at what would probably be an ok photography section IMO (one strictly directed towards severe weather photography) however an open photography section IMO would be a joke, there are already some threads in the equipment section that have nothing to do with chasing, and IMO belong on a photography forum and not a "chasing" forum. The Macro and HDR threads at least need to be in the chaser bar and grill as they have absolutely nothing to do with chasing, and a whole section dedicated to those type of posts IMO has no place on a forum supposedly geared toward chasing. I agree that a photography section couldn’t hurt, but it would have to be strictly focused on photography of storms, all other photography including astronomy, sunsets, insects, old cars and whatever else would be better left out…

And as is evidenced by the photos/video ( albeit few ) on your site and those on Dustin's (the two most outspoken against a photography section ) you guys fall into this category as well.

So what you say is that the only way the board should go is the way of the few? Is that to say the other 77% of the people here who contribute to this board are pointless? Maybe you need an elite board that you control that doesn't allow any chasers to join who photograph the storms they chase. It sounds like a lonely board but that is of course your right to create one.....

I don't get it, whats your point, is this your justification for an open photography section? I guess I am not sure what category I fall into; FWIW if I had a topic I wanted discussed regarding non storm related photography I would ask it on one of the photography forums...

The elite boards exist, and I am guessing they really aren't all that boring, the discussions are probably much more educated, on topic and more worth reading than a good majority of the threads on here anymore, I remember ST being a much higher quality board, though the recent influx of members has resulted in a huge decline in quality, a non storm related photography section would only increase the clutter of non-storm related off topic threads, likely resulting in a further decline of quality weather discussion...

Not much pain in that, is there?

Get a bigger monitor, lol

No point in arguing for either side, the poll vote seems to favor "for" by a good margin.
Not that it matters, but I voted "for" but could care less either way.

I was under the impression that this "photography" section would just be a sub-section of equipment... like discussing the latest camera technology, lenses, apps, techniques (i.e. shooting lightning, etc).

I don't know... seems to be an issue that hasn't been addressed, John Wetter brought up some interesting questions that have yet to be answered. As I interpreted, some folks are petitioning for an open photography section for discussing and posting ALL photos, be it weather related or not. Similar to a couple of the threads already seen in equipment section with pictures of cars, insects and the like. I think EVERYBODY is way ahead of the game, given nothing from the Higher ups of the forum. Before it can really even fairly be discussed I think there needs to be some solid platform indicating the proposed changes or additions. I personally wouldn't be opposed to something similar to what you posted, photography section strictly kept on topic with how it relates to storm photography wouldn't hurt; though as I have said, posting and discussing photos of insects, cars, and what not on a chasing forum is DUM ;)

I think that is a good idea to have the section only for weather related photographs if the sub forum is more than just talking about camera's. As much as I like seeing photographs of other things I come here to see weather related topics and photographs. That would add a little more work to the moderating team but I don't think we would have a big problem with people posting non weather related stuff if that was a rule. I do see why people would want to post non weather related pictures since it has to do with photography and I am fine with that as well if we keep it a sub forum and people don't post anything inappropriate. I am undecided on this one.

If the sub forum was only to discuss the technical side of things the forum would be dead in a few months. Reason being is, it would not take long to discuss every topic there is on the technical side (except for new equipment) and after awhile people would just be rereading old threads and finding the answer they are looking for. The forum would still be usefull but I just don't see a forum just for that being active for very long. The storm spotter forum for example is not very active at the moment. So the only way to keep the forum active would be to allow photographs in my opinion.

I guess the macro thread and some of the HDR thread isn't storm related but if there is a single running thread like that it shouldn't hurt anything as all pictures are hosted off site and there would be no added server load or bandwidth issues and that thread could be easily ignored. Its mostly an off season thing and I don't see that it is effecting the forum negatively if anything it has a positive effect because it keeps the forum alive in the off season.

You guys are talking about sports in the B&G and I can assure you I don't give a care at all for that trash but I haven't said one bad thing about the threads to this point nor would I recommend they were removed just because I won't participate in them. Sports are as far as you can get from chasing followed closely by hunting...

There is no valid reason we should not have a photography section and even have a single HDR, Wildlife or macro thread running in it. When one got 10 pages (or whatever) we could drop off and start a second with a link to the first just to avoid clutter. It would be so simple for those few of you who don't like it to ignore it like I ignore your sports, hunting, gas prices, wireless plans, etc, etc threads that clutter the B&G and other sections...

After all Storm spotters, Equipment, Marketplace and the B&G itself fall outside what some think ST really is all about.....

Photography
Keep all non "report" related photography, video and related software threads here.

??

lol, Your Point?? No one is petitioning for a section dedicated to Sports or hunting; the system for off topic discussions works great as is....

Here is a GREAT place to learn, share and enjoy Canon Cameras and photography.... http://photography-on-the.net/forum/

I would like to see a "Hot Chicks Posing in Front of Tornadoes" section! Make it happen, Tim!

Yeah but then PC and equality would kick in and we would have to allow fat chick and gays in drag and it would turn real nasty real fast. LOL. But until then we could throw the "Hot Chicks Posing Nude in Front of Tornadoes" in a photography section.
