Who is bobbie cookie?

Rob - what jurisdiction would the FCC have in this case?

Dann - he visited various chatrooms, pretended to be Jim Cantore and others, and just otherwise made sure that he wasn't welcome back...

Good question. I'm not sure that they would; I'm not certain they can take any action at all - yet...
Maybe some HAM's out there have the Fed/FCC codes may be able to tell us.
Possibly, Tyler may need to have his legal disclaimer created/amended for his protection.
...IMHO...

Hams use radio, the FCC for the most part handles transmissions over radio waves (TV / ham radio / broadcast radio / etc.) This was done on the Internet, to a private entity. I'm not sure I understand what you are saying, nor how Tyler would be liable.

He didn't use any FCC related functions (ham radio, etc) that would cause an FCC action.

The only one with cause at this point would be the NWS.

I have an LLC and various disclaimers. It's the best I can do besides getting out of the chain, which I won't do just because some kid wants to be annoying.

The point that I am making, is that if anything were to come down - and some person/party were to seek damages because of this 'BC' - that everybody had their 'i's' dotted and their 't's' crossed.
Tyler seems to have it all taken care of - from what I gathered from his last post.
Just lookin' out; that's all...
:)

Thanks Rdale, someone needs some attention maybe? Still? Maybe we should call his folks ...

Ok, here is what I am seeing so far,

everyone wants to cut the Cookie down, maybe they were making false reports, maybe they were trying to be helpful

I know the culprit has already been caught, but I just want to add a few things.

How can false reports and being helpful even be in the same sentence here. How can someone trying to be helpful knowingly give this kind of information. Lets see, I'm near a storm right now so I will try to be helpful. Hmmm, I guess I will give a report of a wedge and softballs. That will get everyone's attention and will be helpful info at the same time.

David, I'm not bashing what you said, I just don't understand how someone might try to be helpful in this situation.

Edit: Nevermind, stupid post

Aaron, you answered your own question / statement:
I dont have any chasing miles/years/tornados under my belt
Spotter Network is for reporting severe weather. You have admitted you have zero years of experience, have chased zero miles, and have never seen a tornado.

There is a sense of entitlement among new chasers I'll just never understand. If you're new, put in the time and miles and you'll earn your stripes just like the "veterans" have.
I just wrote an extensive blog about this last weekend for anyone interested.

Aaron, I saw your post before you edited it, I wanted to just add something, a bit of advice if you will passed on from one of those veterans to a newbie. No matter what you learn in books, no matter how well you think you know severe weather, a couple of seasons on the road mother nature will teach you VERY QUICKLY you don't know half of what you think you know, and you never will.

I think anyone that has chased for any good number of years will agree with me that storms are rarely "textbook" and just as rarely ever fit very neatly into our definitions of things.

It takes real experience and practice to get good at an activity, whether it be storm chasing or basket weaving.

Nearly every time I go out I see something different and usually least once a season I see something that I just can't figure out what the hell was going on. 2009 will be my 25th year.

I saw your post too Aaron.

The difference between a well meaning new chaser and Bobbie Cookie are miles. Bobbie submitted reports for tornados 10 states away from his actual location. If you submit a tornado report because _you_ actually believe you saw one...that is completely different.

I understand what you're saying. I'm not trying to say I know everything, or I'm pro. I know I'm far from any of that. I know my first year/s chasing, I will learn a LOT more than I know. And I hope to learn from Veterans like you this season.

Amen

Amen to that brother! Two nights ago I saw storms fire, precip formed ahead of the line, and then the line went away to leave cells that produced t-warned storms and never got choked out. 9 times out of 10 you see that happen and cells detach from the line into the cold pool and die or simply get choked out.
