Don't recall the exact date, but it was from a storm that occurred in the late 1990's. I was living in Madison, WI at the time and some severe storms were occurring in far northern Illinois. They were too far away to chase in the fading light, but the backlit anvil and mammatus made for a spectacular photograph.

Don't know how long this description will last as I will change it if I get a new favorite, but this was taken on 6-15-2009... the right bolt hit about where the city of Childress, TX is. While most of the action this day was further north, I got into a cluster of little LP storms that turned out to be a real treat at sundown. Got more good shots in about 2 hours this evening than all of last year. My favorite shot of the trip.
