Weather warnings via Google Public Alerts

I just noticed when you search Google Maps now it places a banner on the page if there's an active weather warning for the locale:

When you click on 'more info' you get the warning text and a map with polygon(s):

Apparently Google rolled this feature out last month...seems like a good way to cut through the internet morass and get the products straight to the consumer. Anyone know how they're calculating the "How likely/soon/severe" rankings and whether the NWS is involved at all?

That's pretty cool -- thanks for pointing this out. I think it's great every time I see additional ways to get watches and warnings out to the general public. I also wondering where they're getting the feed from...
