Storms of 2007 Charity DVD!

worth mentioning since these tornadoes took lives (uncommon for 'Storms Of..' events).

I've also got footage from April 21 and May 22, but many have already volunteered that have more or less the same angles I do.

Even if there are other chasers with footage from the same day, I still think it is worth sending in the videos. The viewpoint maybe different or one video may be wideangle and another maybe zoomed. The more variety, the better. Shane's after Greensburg video sounds interesting.

I have already sent in my smaller May 5 tornado video and I am preparing my May 22 video to be ready when the project is restarted. I am also researching amateur video from the Enterprise tornado so that I can have my chapter prepared. I am assuming those folks editing chapters will still be the same and the only change will be whoever edits the entire Storms of 2007 DVD since the original list was removed.

I have exclusive video footage of the nighttime, multi-vortex Benkelman, Nebraska tornado of March 28th. The video isn't the greatest quality (it was shot on a VHS-C camcorder) but it's acceptable if you don't want any video stills off of it. If you would like to include this footage in Storms of 2007, please PM me.

So is there any news on who is taking over this year's edition, who is co-producing, or if this is even gonna happen?

It may also be good to know the differences that came up to stop Verne from doing it, so that no one else "wastes" their time.

Someone should also post the jobs that the producer will be doing this year in the Storms Of 2007 production so that potential candidates will fully know what to expect.

Just PM Verne, me, or Jim LaDue to to get an idea of what each of our respective experiences running the project is all about. Be prepared for a lot of work. In my experience, it takes the selfless effort of many folks, so delegation helps.

Some of the "differences" between the producers are personal in nature, and will not be discussed on this forum, and they shouldn't be a detriment to to progress of the project. Nonetheless, we all agree that this is a worthy project and not a waste of time, and we will be more than happy to consult and contribute as our schedules will allow. I certainly hope that the seed we've planted continues to grow, and we can find worthy candidates to take over the lead role.

What about the differences that are directly related to the DVD and not personal in nature? A lot of people want to know what's going on with the whole DVD production and I can't think of a better place than here to give updates. I know there isn't a lead producer yet but it would probably be a good idea to get the list of dates and chapter producers up just so people can still swap video and continue working on their chapters. I don't want to see people lose interest in the DVD but can tell that it's already happening.

You're not going to hear these from me on the public forum out of respect for my DVD colleagues. If anyone is serious about taking over the project, then we can discuss offline. Otherwise, the information should be of no interest to anyone else.

Agreed, and if and when there is an update (i.e., if a lead producer is found), you'll read it here.

Verne has the original master list. He can decide if he wants to post it here.

I am still gathering my Enterprise, Alabama tornado stuff. I suspect others who are editing chapters are working on their sections.

Not to be the rain on the parade, but it would seem that all activity regarding co-production, gathering date lists, and submitting video would be moot until a main producer can be found. Is there a deadline in mind for this search? I don't see the point in doing anything until someone is appointed to spearhead this project.

I just wanted to let everyone know that while the May 4th chapter will have a lot to do with Greensburg, there were also other beautiful storms so if you have footage from N. KS or Oklahoma I definitely want to use that as well. Also, I am looking for photos and video of Greensburg before and after the tornado. I am trying to contact as many people as I can but know that I haven't come close to getting ahold of everyone that was chasing that day, so if you have anything that you would like to donate for the May 4th chapter it would be greatly appreciated.

Darin

Darin,
Our group has some May 4th footage of the LP supercell near Woodward, OK. This was after the storm produced the tornado that Reed Timmer intercepted. It is a great structure storm though! We also have one really nice shot of the structure of the Greensburg storm, but it happens in one lightning flash, so it's not very long. You can actually make out a tornado on the ground at the base of the storm. It's something interesting. We also have the Greensburg tornado and half of our group drove through Greensburg and got some damage shots a few days later. If you're interested in any of this footage, we are very willing to contribute. We also have footage of multiple tornadoes on May 5th including two near St. Johns, KS. Let me know what you need.

None of us should question Verne or anyone else's decision regarding the production of this DVD. 2007 has been an incredible year for storm chasers. It has also been a very tragic year for the communities who have taken a direct hit. There are a lot of people who could really use some charitable donations from the production of this DVD. I hope someone will step us and take on this project.

I disagree with you 110% on that statement. Many of us have been a part of this project from the beginning. We have put a lot of work into this project and even more on previous editions. So naturally we have a genuine interest in this project and its status. There is nothing wrong with asking questions. You just may not get the answers you are looking for in return.

To get the ball rolling on this, past editions have usually had an October deadline for video submissions, leaving about a 3-4 week window for co-producers to storyboard, edit, and send to the producer(s). So it would seem that we've got a few months to "balk" this thing until someone makes a decision.

I've got a strong opinion on how this should work, but I'll reserve that for sometime down the road if things aren't resolved in the next month or so.

Agreed, but I am not investing any more time currently until there is some direction on this. Without knowing who (if) the lead producer will be, what assurance is there the same chapter producers will be used (or approved by the lead producer)? Seems like a lot of people are gun shy from jumping into the lead position after the quick downward spiral and ensuing apathy.
