Well, we all have to face the end of chase season... unless Canada is in your cards and even then. However this drought has been a tough one for convection of any kind, luckily the monsoonal moisture made a prominent appearance and the high pressure vacated the C Plains just enough that we got a bit of NW flow. After 2 months of 105-110 any old storm seems like a miracle... especially when its intensely electrified!

We didn't get to do any chasing during the 2012 season because of extenuating circumstances, so I went back looking through my photos for any with lightning shots. I discovered a photo we took on May 22, 2011, around the outskirts of Independence, KS. As many remember, this was the day Joplin was devastated by an EF5 tornado. Unfortunately, when the supercell eventually split east of Independence we stayed with the left split and ended up losing out. Up until that time we were hopscotching down highway 160 with Roger Hill's tour group vans and had we stayed on that course, well you know the rest of the story. Here's the picture before I make the story much too long and painful!

I suppose this is a bit of a bump. This thread seemed like the only thread for random pics of 2012. Well, buried in a folder, I found a set of pics I took. They were all of a storm rolling into Amarillo in July. So I made a huge 5 pic panoramic of the storm to create this pic. Figured this might help some with SDS. The original is 13462 x 4343 pixels and almost 50 MB...but I'll spare you the loading time :D. July 8, 2012 in Amarillo:
