Karen, I think it's from the center of the encased object, not the whole blob.

OK yeah that would make the most sense......if it's laying on the ground you count from the ground up anyways - same should apply for suspended objects I guess. Thanks Jason.

Does make it kinda fun measuring around a twig though.

As of 8:30am, getting my light snow with medium sized flakes.. about a half inch of ice on the trees. Had several power surges during the night but thank God.. we currently still have lights and heat. My thinking is we'll get MAYBE an inch of snow before all is said and done by later today. In case you didn't see the announcement page.. party is cancelled for tomorrow.. read that for more details.

Been snowing moderately to heavy here in Edmond. Looks like the system is finally overrunning that powerful dry slot and is redeveloping as the low pulls through the TX panhandle and into OK.

I can't believe my work has not cancelled... We closed early yesterday for preparation, now we are open when the event has done it's damage????? Make no sense... WHatever

The transition to all snow occurred between 7:40am and 8:00am CST here in Norman. Light snow is falling as of 9:50am CST. Most trees have between .6" and .7" of ice on them this morning and there is isolated minor tree damage. The roads are icier than they were last night as well.

Here in Sulphur , Ok . we have had about 1/4 of Ice . But 5 miles east around the town of Roff there is a little over 1/2 of Ice and no power.

Edit : 12:30 Heavy snow now in Sulphur already have an inch !

We got it pretty bad here in Chickasha OK, we lost power for about 2 hours yesterday, but came back on and has not gone off since.

All of downtown is without power, guys I work with in surrounding towns are without power.

Being a racer has its perks, 5500 watt generator in the race trailer and 50 gallons of gas for it takes some worry off lol.

Some pics from my yard, no damage other than limbs down, gonna be a good workout with the chainsaw once it thaws. Until then I'll head to the heated shop and work on the other car.............

Here in Arcadia, the mean ice accumulation at six places around my property is just a hair under 0.5" (just a hair above 7/16"). Of course, we also had the frza-ip-frza sandwich yesterday, but the IP tends not to "stick" on elevated surfaces (tree branches, top of fences, etc.), so that ice measurement is pretty much just the FRZA from yesterday and overnight. I'd like to get a ground measurement to see how much IP we had yesterday, but that'd be tough since the first round of FRZA yesterday morning and early afternoon didn't freeze on contact at the ground, so that method wouldn't work much if I want to see how much frza we had before (then after) the primary IP deluge yesterday afternoon.

Snow on the ground here is just about 1/4" -- nothing really worth mentioning. I walked out to see what I could shovel, but I opted not to shovel at this time since the little bit of snow is actually given some traction on the glaze beneath. Shoveling away the snow removed the chance at having any meaningful traction -- driving on glaze ice is not fun (or sometimes not possible), as I'm sure most of us have experienced. So, I guess I'll leave the shoveling until tomorrow, when it'd be worth it to remove the high-albedo snow in hopes of melting the glaze faster.

Gotta sympathize with Jeff's zr-ip-zr sandwich - we're beginning to see the same. The pattern so far for our end of this system has been rain-frzra-sleet-frzra/snow/sleet-frzra. Now - at noon - we have just started with the second batch of heavy ZR. Be interesting to see how much accumulation there's gonna be...

Took a jaunt up north to Greenbrier this morning - and apart from the roads being a bit whiter due to the lack of gritting/plowing out in the boonies, there's really nothing much more to mention. Maybe had .1" more of ice accumulation up there than down here in Conway - but not much more.

Finally some decent snow occurring here at the farm NW of Piedmont.. we have at least 2" now just since 9am and snowing about an inch per hour.
Back edge between LAW and OKC so I think we'll be in at least 1/2 inch per hour between now and 1500cst.. so this is a pleasant suprise and will make for some nice pics later on. Despite the power outage to most of Piedmont earlier, our lights have stayed on...

Ice storms definitely do a lot of damage. I can still see a lot of tree damage from an ice storm that occurred back in 2003 across SE MI. Driving north on one of the main roads (Rochester Road) for 15 miles or so, you can still see where the tops of many trees were knocked out -- even in the middle of summer.

Started last night about 1130pm with light to moderate freezing rain. By midnight it had changed to about 50/50 mixing with sleet. This morning it was clear we hadn't had any snow overnight. There was just a 1/4" crust of sleet on everything. About 8am it changed to all snow and while it has been snowing hard all day, with big flakes, it doesn't seem to be piling up. 2-3" would be a good guess.

Edit: Just across the KS state line from Joplin, MO.

Anyone else notice the expiration of the Winter Storm Warning in C. and W. Oklahoma @ noon CST? After this, we received heavy snowfall and it is still coming down. I have 6 inches outside my house here in Edmond, and about 5" a few miles south of here back at my work.

Not really sure why the NWS would not have extended the WSW for an additional 5 or 6 inches of snow, but it seems like a winter storm out there to me!

I freed my truck from it's icy shell...And then measured the thickness of the ice that I took off...

1.25" slabs of ice, laying on the ground now.

I'm now between 4 and 6 inches of snow here too.

Around 3/4" of ice yesterday and overnight, and 6" of snow and still going strong here in Norman...

I have thankfully not lost power at any point.
