program searching for female storm chaser

I think a far more worthy question could be asked, however - such as why female chasers are still seen as some kind of "freak of nature" or "phenomenon" to be regarded with giggles and wide eyes.

Very good question, but I don’t think it is a woman thing. Nothing is more irrelevant to stormchasing than gender, race, color. The sky doesn’t care if you’re a Woman from Wisconsin or an Irishman from Idaho.

I think it is human nature to shun the unusual in general, and follow the pack (lord take me now). It reminds me of Henri Matisse, the artist. He was labeled a “fauve” (wild beast) because God forbid! He painted trees pink not green! Lakes yellow not blue! The man should be horsewhipped.

Long live the Fauvists…and the “Freaks of Nature”. If driving to 10 states in search of high voltage makes me freaky, then I hereby embrace my inner FoN.

But when it all shakes out, Storm Sistas are just not all that freaky. You want to know what freaky female behavior is? Buying 50 pairs of shoes, reading about Jennifer Aniston’s next boyfriend, and starving oneself to lose yet another dress size. I would rather be covered with spiders.

Suddenly, roving the desert alone all night for a few lightning bolts seems quite sane. :)

My sister, Sarah, has been contacted. If I find out anything noteworthy, I'll share.

Hey, I've got it! Instead of Beauty and the Geek, Beauty and the weather Freak! ;-)

Actually, you better make up some stuff on your webpage documenting a show in preplan stages. Thats a freaking great idea for a reality TV show.

Why? Have you seen a group photo of most of the people doing the giggles? Hell, Slim Fast should do a reality TV Commerical along with the show the biggest loser and see which storm chaser could lose the most weight...

Since were on the reality TV show ideas, this would answer your question.

The Last American Virgin Storm Chaser. We take 10 chasers who have never been on a date let along gotten (bleep) and set them out on a six week mission in tornado alley:

Who can score the most...

Tornadoes...

The winner will go on an all expense date with Taco Bell TV commercial star and Hollywood Hobag, Carmen Electrica where you too will be another page 7 dude.

Mike, I'd say you should be granted the infinity prediction on this topic.

This will be the "forever thread," especially IF this proposed show indeed becomes reality!

I'll be curious to see who they choose for this. :-P...I'm sure it's only a matter of time before someone from the company finds this on Stormtrack...or perhaps they already have but don't have posting access

Maybe it's me, but these days I don't think anything in chasing is "freakish" or "unusual". Maybe 10-15 years ago, but not today.

Women chasing
Rookies seeing 20 tornadoes
Guys living in Virginia driving to Nebraska in one shot and bagging tornadoes
50 tornadoes in a single year
People seeing tornadoes in Alabama on purpose
Being a few hundred yards from a tornado

These all used to be "something" as far as unusually cool or highly unlikely accomplishments. But today, it's expected.

That'd be courtesy of dat Wx-Worx.

I apologize for bringing up a thread that's been talked to death... but earlier in the week I was also contacted.... being the curious cat that I am, I decided to reply and ask questions such as:
What will she be responsible for?
What heavy objects will she be lifting?
How will she be compensated for her participtation?

She got someone else to email me back asking to give her a call, but unfortunately for me, I can't be bothered with long distance calling especially if I only just wanted a few basic questions answered to try to grab more info for someone who might be interested. I wasn't looking into an interview because I didn't want to do this anyway, so I just left it hoping they'd move onto another person. Plus I did a google search and couldn't find anything about this casting company, so I can't even say how legit this actually is.

Well today I got another email back from the one who originally sent the email basically wondering why I haven't called them back yet, and they are looking forward to speak to me about this opportunity.... I didn't say I wanted an interview and it seems they are trying to lure me into one.... guess I will just have to be honest and say I am no longer interested or something along those lines just to get them off my back lol.

More on the big show

I was on the mass mailing, too, and I'm told this is for a Discovery Channel show. I don't really fit the demographic, but I think they are really looking, and time is running out ... let them know if you're interested! Anybody know who the Three Musketeers are who have already been enlisted? Just curious.

It's for Discovery, they want a female on the crew so that it isn't all males. It's the same DOW/TIV mission.

Gotta love Hollywood. Heaven forbid they'd ever hire the best person for the job- independent of whether they had "indoor" or "outdoor" plumbing (male or female).
The age and picture requirements lay it all out.
I am NOT a fan of affirmative action.
God blessed us all with different abilities. The world needs ditch diggers too. :)

They are having problems filling the spot, god knows why. I'm hoping they put a medic in that position, male or female.
