Hi, Im running a compaq presario with a 100W power invertor, I had a drained battery Im assuming due to small wattage of invertor? Should I go to at least 200 & will that solve my problems?
Thanks, Kevin
Thanks Mike, it was coincidence or it killed it in a short bit of time, like it was ready to be replaced anyway . Only 20 min I believe it was plugged in with car off. Will test further in truck & see how it goes. Thanx,
Kevin
Search google for Car Laptop charger. It won't waste as much power since it's not converting dc to ac then back to dc for the laptop. I have a different brand and I've left the laptop in the truck overnight with no problems.
I'm surprised that inverter didn't shut off when the battery voltage dropped a bit; all the ones I've used in the past had this feature. I suspect your battery/charging system needs an inspection too by the sounds of it.
Well, as I stated, it may be a coincidence but the battery hiccupped in a parking lot, we got gas & almost didnt start. So we drove back to Marion & had battery tested (I have back trouble) so I couldnt do myself. It was shot so had a new one installed. I do know that battery is at least 3 yrs old. So either case it died. Ill have to monitor next time to see thanks for reply

Kevin,
You may have already looked at this or know this. But does your 100 watt inverter have a low voltage alarm or auto-shutoff if your battery voltage drops to around 10 volts. I know some of them do and some don't. My older 100 watt does not, so I rarely use it. I mainly just use my main larger 3000 watt, which is really an overkill for what I have running. If not, that could be a contributing cause also.
Very good point its a small loud 100 black & decker. Ill look at web site but I dont think so because it was still running at the time the car would barely start. Thanks for your info, we decided to take it back & get a 2 or 300W invertor. Ill make sure it has auto shutoff & make sure to use laptop battery only when sitting stationary in field.
