National Storm Chaser Convention **Official Thread**

Good day all,

Well, I COULD HAVE BEEN THERE now (It's 10:04 PM EST 2-13) :-(

But I am still stuck here in Miami waiting for my plane to be fixed.

I religeously fly SW Airlines to most of my destinations. Why I chose American - Don't ask ... I just saw a non-stop flight and I work around the corner from the Miami airport.

Friday the 13th's bad luck began when I was forced to check my large carry on, which I have been carrying on SW Airlines for more than a year, and wait in long lines and spend the $25 bag check fee.

I waited for 15 minutes, then some lady said go over there to check the bag if you already have a boarding pass (I had one already printed, to save time). The person at that line told me to go back to the other line, all the way to the end - to stast all over again.

Then, they said they could not check the bag less than 45 minutes - I missed it by 3 minutes - tick - tock!

Hurry up and wait - and wait - and wait, on the tarmac, 5:35 PM, then 6:35 PM, then 7:35 PM ... Baby in the middle seat next to me screaming the whole time ... Captain says a mechanic has to check paperwork, then there was "a leak", then we are given the aweful news we have to de-plane while the B-757 is brough into the hangar to replace a hydraulic pump.

The delay was a good thing, as I was waiting so long to check the bag, I would have missed it anyway had it departed at 5:35 PM. The bag I guess is sitting on the same plane, currently being repaired, to leave at 6:30 AM EST 2-14.

I SHOULD make it to the convention by roughly 10-11 AM MDT ... Stay away from any big-6 airline (including American) ... What misery.

We arrived at 6:30 this evening after an easy drive from Wichita. No snow or ice to contend with this afternoon! The ice breaker was a lot of fun. It was great to put faces with many of the names from Stormtrack. There were quite a few booths set-up with all sorts of toys, videos, shirts and of course, great photography. I had the opportunity to talk with Mike Umscheid and view his outstanding work. I really like his fine-art approach to storm photography -- we share the same philosophy.

It's going to be a great weekend!

The streaming is working very well today. I enjoyed Jon Davies talk on nightime and rain-wrapped tornadoes. The audio and video is good. I can read the slides. Still not as good as being there but still very enjoyable.

Does anyone know if this will be available to purchase? Like through Severe Studios? I would definitely consider picking it up. I don't have the time (or a quiet enough house) to watch it today.

I was going to purchase the PPV but had trouble creating an account. I couldn't get a Password for some reason and didnt get help with it. But I did wait until lasnt night so my bad for waiting until the last minute.
On the other hand I did enjoy doing other things today and saving my $30.00 I guess. The video on Friday night was cool though.

THe copyright stuff is understandable but an agreement could be worked out benefiting everyone.

If anyone wants to view a few archived presentations from the fermilab seminar last year check out this link :

Some presentations appeared to have been pulled though that were on there for quite sometime earlier.

They have this every year.. looking foward to it. Hope to be in Denver next year perhaps.

I'm in Junction City, KS on the way back to Edwardsville. Just wanted to give a big thanks to Roger, Tim, and Dave for their hard work, year after year, on these conventions. This year's was again excellent - I especially enjoyed the teaching-oriented presentations this morning. And as always, it was great seeing familiar faces and meeting new folks! I was especially pleased to see a number of kids at this year's convention. I wish there had been something like it many years ago when I was young!

Good day all,

What a fantastic turnout ... Lots of new faces, many of the tried and true chasers!

I want to thank Roger Hill and Tim Samaras, and Dave - AGAIN - For such a fantastic job at putting this event together and keeping costs down as well!

Thanks all who participated and made this all worth while.

Below is a link for this and other chaser-party / conference events in 2009...

Even after missing half of it I enjoyed it just as much as always!
