National Storm Chaser Convention **Official Thread**

I checked into seeing how much it would cost me and my wife to fly out there through the link Tony posted. The fares seem great but then when you go to book, there is $60-$70 in taxes included per ticket...wow. The total came to $398.00 for two round trip tickets from Wichita, KS to Denver, CO....Umm, no thanks  I think I will take the scenic route again this year unless anyone knows of a way to get cheaper tickets. $200 - $250 would be okay, but I am not paying $400 when it is an hour and a half flight. It takes 7 hours to make the drive and would be cheaper in the long run! I am just trying to be lazy this year. lol.

My bride and I are heading up 12 Feb from Benton (Shreveport) LA, via I20, Dallas; I35 Salina, I70 Denver. I've got one seat, two is squeezable for transport. Easy exit and entry to freeway only. Won't pay room & board, but can provide a ride. PM before 10 Feb.

I also have room for 3 in my Jeep and room for two in my Hotel room if you don't mind a roll-a-way bed. Tyler Constantini is also bunking in my room.

Who ever does need a ride/room just send me a PM or a email at [email protected] you can also call me at 479-659-4310 (just leave a message).

I do ask that if you do need a ride or a room that you cover your half of room cost or help split the gas bill. The vehicle is a '00 Grand Cherokee and is a very comfortable ride. I could possibly squeeze 3 in the car but I would prefer not to to make the long drive more comfortable.

Priceline.com will give you 2 plane tickets/2 nights at the Red Lion/mid-sized rental car from 2/13-2/15 for about $270 per person. It could be worth checking out.

Convention discounted room rate is $79.00 per night! Reservations at this rate must be made before Feb. 8th. Be sure to mention you are attending the National Storm Chaser Convention.

Wondering what they normally charge I got on their site to see. I see an option to pre-pay, AND it's not refundable(well some deposit amount I guess) if you change your mind and don't go...for....

$70.95 for Friday night.
$59.95 for Saturday night.

It is a limited time offer on their site at the moment, for those that know they are going. Unless I'm completely missing something obvoius.

I saw this, or something similar to it... It is a king bed only so if you're going without a roomie, it would be a good deal!
I have planned a couple conventions in the past that included hotel rooms and usually the set cost that is sometimes higher than the regular rate might be in place to offset another cost like renting a ballroom or equipment, etc through the hotel.
I have no idea how this is set up but conventions are not created to break even so I imagine the set prices for us chaser convention attendees will be a little higher in many cases.

MH, you attending?

Actually just looked and it says it's for 2 double beds. Not bad since it is only $15(total, 2 nights) more than a super 8 down the road.

The odds of me going, hmmm, 2% or so, lol. Not terribly likely. I was just bored and pricing it out again, and wound up looking at motels.

I have had a lot of 2% risks work out for me over the years. We should count you in then!
It's awesome you can get two doubles. Everything I saw was for kings - sorry for the correction above.

Amateur Radio Repeater for Talk-in to Auroa

Is there a designated amateur radio repeater for talk-in to Aurora for the confrence? If so whats the frequency and PL tone...

Whoo! im exited, cant wait to attend my first NSCC. Got 2 roundtrip tickets on Frontier from Midway to Denver for $338. Hope to meet some new people there!

Not really. This really isn't a ham event per se, although a lot of the chasers that will be there are hams.

Most of the Texas events will have usually have one available such as TESSA, the Texas Hurricane Conference and of course the SKYWARN Appreciation days. They are not necessarily officially sanctioned, but they are there.

Can someone tell me what the more active weather oriented repeaters are in the Denver area.
