Someone brought this up tonight, and unfortunately I missed this report totally, but figured it was something very positive to talk about. Mike deserves a big job well done from everyone. This is a selfless act that I think is pretty impressive to say the least. What really gets my attention is that he went BACK to check on him later.

Nice work, Mike Scantlin.

Mike, a big pat on the back for a job well done sir. Thanks for going above and beyond for someone else. It's a very gratious gesture that every one of us should take note of.

Indeed. It's nice to see someone publicizing the positive aspects of chasing for once, since they largely go unnoticed. Mike, I know you don't want this fanfare, which IMO makes you even more the "man." That was a fine thing to do.

great to hear there are people who care. thanks for being an example of why storm chasers and weather spotters are here to protect life and serve our communities. thanks mike!!!!! :D

If this was on highway 71 I believe we may have passed this scene a good deal of time later, since we were further south chasing the far less deadly storm that formed near Tulsa that day. IIRC there were a few damaged cars in the median - was this the place? Regardless GJ transporting these folks to safety Mike.

I am seriously considering taking a first aid class after hearing all these stories from this day, Greensburg, and others ... right now my lack of First Aid knowledge would simply mean I'd just get in the way and possibly make someone's condition worse, but if I'm first on a scene (as many stormchasers are) someone may be depending on me while emergency vehicles could be blocked off, or behind with all the casualties.

Mike, what a great story and good job for stopping to help those people.

Darrin, I would highly recommend a first aid/first responder course. I was able to take a first responder course through our fire department. You're right, storm chasers/spotters are first on the scene alot of times and it pays to have the knowledge to be able to help.
Also, I took CERT training here in OKC and actually learned alot. Good luck and stay safe.

For those who don't know, Mike received a call from the Missouri National Guard a few days later and was informed that he saved the life of a Sergeant!! Great job, Mike!

thanks alot to all of you. i know most of you would have done the same thing. not too many people have been in this situation and i sure wasnt prepared for it. but i was in the zone, so i did what i thought needed to be done. thanks alot guys and gals.

I'm meeting up with the group Friday at the MO National Gaurd Armory in Joplin. Some local news stations want to do a story so we're having a press conference. I really don't want this publicity for myself, but storm chasing could sure use it. good luck this week.

Mike, you were in the right place at the right time and without hesitation you helped a family in need. With it being in my backyard practically, I'll be watching for it on local news stations here.

Definitely a positive spin on storm chasers!
