SN / RS Logging into Spotter Network on RadarScope

RS on mac desktop has no settings for location reporting. on IOS i do have the /report location/ toggled on. but i think the problem might be that when you go to /system/preferences/location in IOS the only two options are /never/ and /when using app/.

so if you're saying this whole thing depends on IOS and whether radarscope is active and reporting the location, then i would have to have it running all the time to keep me visible to RS. and i usually do have it running in the background on my iphone, but not all the time as i use the desktop app 99% of the time. and it says 'while using the app' and i don't know if that includes when it's not actually on the screen.

so i logged onto SN, updated my info and position, then i quit and restarted RS on the iphone and on the mac. and now i'm showing up in IOS and on the mac. but at some point, based on past experience, in about 4-8 hours i'll drop out again until i do all 3 of those things again.

yep, posted this at 2148 and at 2310 when i checked i had timed out on both RS desktop and IOS. and from past experience, the only way to activate me again is to open SN, update some random stuff, then quit RS desktop and IOS, then restart them.

Try these two simple steps per the attached image. First, press the button labeled #1 in red on the toolbar. A blue circle will then appear on the map where you’re located. Next, press inside the blue circle labeled #2 in yellow and you should see a message that your location was sent to SN at the then current time. In about a minute the red dot will appear and stay there until you close RS or turn it off.

I hope it works for you as well as it does for me.

tks @Mark Blue ! but it didn't work until i quit RS on desktop and quit RS on IOS and restarted although i don't know if the desktop restart triggered it or it finally activated on its own. i rarely use my iphone unless i can't get to the desktop and this wouldn't work if you didn't have the iphone app it looks like.

still, it's one less step than having to go back to SN and hit some random update buttons. using that method i also have to quit and restart the RS apps. and if i only have my iphone it would be a real pita to have to open a web browser to open SN to hit those buttons.

thanks!

no, i realize that. what i'm saying is that up until you showed us that method, i would have to go to SN in a web browser and hit some of the update buttons, usually position update even though i'm static. then i would have close and restart the RS app either on the phone or the desktop or both. before you posted the alternate way, if i hadn't had access to the desktop browser i'd have to pull up SN in an IOS browser which i've never tried. but your way works and i'm still showing active in the desktop RS app, but not in the IOS app.

the only other thing to determine is the status of the IOS app. it could be open, but the iphone sleeping or on lockout. it could be in the background with the phone active or in the background with the phone locked. or it could be closed by swiping it away. but it appears i've timed out on IOS because the phone was on standby on the lockscreen for an hour or so. but i have no idea why i'm inactive on the phone but still active on the desktop.

there seem to be too many moving parts to this and i suspect that if all i had was the phone and i wasn't static, it wouldn't be an issue. but since i'm static it won't be a problem doing your procedure when i want to indicate that i'm actively spotting.

i wasn't when i posted the reply. but i did your trick and it activated me again on the iphone. but i was still active on the desktop RS app yet inactive on the iphone. well, the red dot wasn't showing, i didn't check the spotter list on the phone.

but believe me, this hack will help me tremendously. it's just i've done so much beta testing in my career that i can't help trying to work through to a solution or a root cause. :)

oh, and this time after i did the procedure, i kept my hands off things and the red dot came back without any intervention although i didn't time how long it took. and, as i said, it never disappeared on the desktop app.

i'm trying something. i left the RS app on iphone running as the top app. the phone goes to lockscreen after 2 minutes and i'm going to check every hour or so to see if i actually time out or not if i never let RS go to background while i run another app.

To keep RS on top and open, you can also select the "disable auto lock" which will keep your device from going to sleep and locking the screen whenever Radarscope is active and in front.

yeah, it times out if it's not open and active. but when it times out i'm still active in the desktop app although that times out later on, it just holds onto it longer. but knowing the behavior means i can workaround the issue.

Hey I'm trying to sign into radarscope with my spotter network login and it's not working. Any suggestions or help is appreciated. Thank you.
