• A student is looking for help on tropical cyclone prediction. Please fill out the survey linked to this thread: https://stormtrack.org/threads/storm-and-hurricane-intensity-prediction-survey.32957
  • After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

FYI (and perhaps this should be a sticky) DO NOT POST ANY PHONE NUMBERS OR SPECIFIC ADDRESSES THAT YOU HEAR ON THE SCANNER. THIS IS ILLEGAL AND IS DANGEROUS IN THAT IT MAY HAMPER OR ENDAGER CURRENT MISSIONS ON THE GROUND.

Two things here...a bit of latitude is allowed, especially during a disaster situation. THe news media uses scanner information all the time (I hear them giving breaking news at specific addresses on fires and shootings all the time in OKC). Also, I doubt that any missions will be put in danger by posting information on here...who among the looters has a working computer and internet connection in New Orleans? More likely that they have scanners (or actual radios stolen from public safety units) that they are monitoring the frequency with directly.

Thats DSS...Department of Social Services. Evidently 1000 evacuees have just been brought to the airport and some need medical attention.

well in any case, it sounds like things may have quieted down for a bit, i havent heard much in last 20 minutes

I still want to know who is broadcasting this and from where and what channels are being monitored. It kinda important. I run a major scanner website and will check radioreference.com for more on this in a minute but I feel you guys should be careful of what you hear as it is not always as "real" as you might think. I would like to hear a second or third scanner broadcast from the areas affected. It could seriously help officials get to the people that need help the most. Now as a full time pizza delivery driver supervisor, this is affecting me in a big way with a 20 cent per litre spike in gas prices here and that could get worse in the coming days. It is all very bad news but the most important thing we must do is rebuild. Build new houses in every city in North America as many as how many homes have been detroyed.

edit:

also, search 'scanner" on shoutcast and you will see the top scanner feeds including several feeds from this disaster.

I would say that this is genuine. It is a rebroadcast of the State Emergency Management frequency. I lived for many years in the region, and worked with an EM office, so based on numerous items that I have heard, I am pretty much convinced that it is genuine.

The frequency broadcasts through a network of repeaters statewide, so you could monitor the broadcasts from anywhere, even in bordering states.

This particular stream has been expanded to allow 300 simultaneous connections, but it is still obviously getting overloaded.

Below is a list of other sites streaming N.O. comms:

http://205.252.89.181:8000/live.m3u -- Primary Server

http://ve3nsv.no-ip.org:8000/louisiana.m3u -- relay from Primary

http://radio.scannerbuff.net:8008/hurricane.m3u -- relay from primary

http://www.firefeeds.com/feedroom/la-neworleans.html -- relay from Primary

http://www.shoutcast.com/sbin/shout...le=filename.pls

Also Several teamspeak servers have a relay for this feed also

teamspeak://radio.scannerbuff.net:8767
teamspeak://incidentbroadcast.com:8767

This site has streams and lots of good information from the scene:

http://wiki.nola-intel.org/index.php/Main_...reaming_Servers

And for anybody with only dial-up access, there is an 8K transcoded relay at
http://www.recnet.com/recfm/rec2.m3u (50 stream limit/dial-up users only please)

DISCLAIMER: I have not personally checked out all of these myself, as the original link works fine for me. But they come from a reliable source and nobody else has complained of them not working.

If you go to the website that Jared listed above and search, you can find a scanner of the Houston PD at the Astrodome. They are already being overwhelmed.
