• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

I'm not sure if this thread will help you other than make you feel like you are not alone: http://www.stormtrack.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22513

I was wondering when you go into Device Manager what you see for the manufacturer of your IEEE 1394 Bus host controller? Seems the Texas Instruments chips have not had as much trouble as other manufacturers, especially Prolific. I've never used the $600.00 + software suites some here use, but I have had decent luck with Nero and Roxio. If I had to choose one I'd take Nero in a heartbeat, although I have yet to import any HD video since purchasing my HV-40. I guess I better get my rear in gear and see if I have any issues since others have periodically experienced issues, especially with Firewire.

Yea, that other thread just makes me feel like I'm not alone. Manufacturer of the 1394 Bus controller is OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 bus host controller. I may have to try Nero and see what happens. Thanks to all of you who have responded and given me a glimmer of hope. I'll figure it out someday!

Probably not a big deal, but Norton Internet Security 2010 is reporting the website mentioned in Post #2 of this thread as harboring malware. NIS 2010 usually doesn't have much to say, but for some reason it doesn't like this website:

http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm

If anyone downloaded a payload from this website I'd run full system scan just to be on the safe side. Here's the report it lists in conjunction with this website: http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2008-011517-3725-99

I sure wish we had a solution for your issues Jason. Hopefully something will change for the better today if you stay after it.

Thanks Mark...Tried HDV Split again and I get an icon on the desktop after I capture video. I was actually happy for a minute, yeah just a minute. Actually, it's just an icon with 0 bytes of data. Others have had the same problem with no fix. Again, it's something as crazy as disabling the sound board that solves the problems in some situations. I tried this with no luck. Programs I've tried with 0 success:

Pinnacle Studio 14
HDV Split
Windows Movie Maker Live

When you are in play mode....is your camera in HDV or DV mode? Try DV mode.....I was able to do that and use HDVsplit on my PC and it worked out great. No really sure why, but it worked. It's obvious that computer gurus are behind on Firewire and video communications. I'm having the same kind of problems with miniDV and XP right now.

Thanks for the tip, but...Correct me if I'm wrong, but capturing in DV mode won't give you HD quality video. If I'm not confused, I think that's what I read on some forums.

EDIT: I was in HDV mode when trying to capture.

HA HA!!! I finally figured it out! I was determined to figure it out one way or another. Here is what I did (on accident).

It's simple...Using Pinnacle Studio HD 14, the camera has to be playing the video before I click on Import. It works like a charm when I did this just now. Doing it any other way simply won't work. I've spent hours and hours trying to figure it out, and it came to this. Jeez!!!
