Hotels/Motels to stay AWAY from on the plains

The Econo Lodge near Amana Colonies, Iowa on I 80 is pretty awful also. Stayed there once on a trip back from Nebraska in 2006. Half the motel was closed for "renovation", and I'll swear the place was haunted. Now I don't believe in ghosts, but about 10PM, I went out to my truck in the parking lot, and heard noises coming from the closed up section of the place. Not working / construction noises, but faint banging, clanking, and creaking type sounds, and what appeared to be vaporous images, and points of light in and around the windows. Now there are no parking lot lights to say, just a few wall mount lights, so these were not reflections from outside sources...these appeared to come from the inside of this boarded up area. I watched this stuff going on for a good 45 minutes or so, just to make sure I wasn't going bonkers. I checked with the front desk, which told me the place had been closed off for quite some time back there. Outside of that, the water pressure sucked, water had a rusty tint to it, and the A/C blew barely cool air.

Interesting story in the Memphis paper behind that one. Detectives were looking for that lady and tracked her to that room even. They did not even go in the room, just asked the cleaning crew if anything was unusual. Wow.

Someone mentioned a fan and that got me thinking. A new thread about non-storm related things to take on a chase would be good. I'm there w/ the fan. I actually pack a fan on every trip b/c I absolutely cannot sleep good w/o one.

Another thing, I wish there was a way to search members by location. I would have no problem w/ someone contacting me asking about where to stay or not stay in my neck of the woods. I know enough about the joints in my area to tell someone where to stay or not stay pretty much from Great Bend to Springfield to Tulsa and back to Wichita. My wife and I are "get out of town" people. I bet I've stayed in 100 different places in the last ten years. My FB info is in my profile and my cell is on my FB page. I would have no problem with any of you calling me to ask about hotels, roads, restaurants, etc.

I don't know if someone has already mentioned the Econolodge in Dodge City. That was the only Motel we found one night in Dodge City. The city was full of chasers and there was no way to find some rooms for our persons.
We stayed at that and that was one of the worst room ever to me.
Holes in the wall, holes in the ceiling, rusty bath, rusty sink, and some insect:)
