Hotels/Motels to stay AWAY from on the plains

I thought it might be a good idea to get a running list of hotels or motels that should be avoided out on the plains. Particularily, the bug infested ones. I can deal with bad service, not so much with a bug infested room. Not sure if this should stay here or be moved to the B&G, feel free to move if it needs to be. So with my first chasecation coming up in a couple months, anyone have some suggestions on where to avoid?
Mods, could we maybe get this stickied for future use if we get enough responses?

The Canadian Inn in Canadian, TX. We called ahead and reserved two rooms and they assured us they had Wi-Fi. We got there later that evening after driving from OKC, no Wi-Fi. The girl at the desk said it had been out for a week, but didn't want to give us a refund.

I know that it's not a cleanliness issue, but it is a hole in Verizon's coverage so internet service is VERY important to have there.

Thanks Wes. Like you said that's also very important to keep in mind.

Keep the suggestions coming. Hopefully this can be a useful resource for everyone for the coming season.

It doesn't really matter what city, town or wide spot in the road your at, if it says, "Scottish Inn"......run away......just run away.

I recommend staying away from any motel that you can rent a room for 30 min increments! You might just leave the motel with more than a good night sleep!

I would avoid the Super 7 at I-40 and Hwy 4, which lies just west of the OKC metro-area. I encountered an insect issue, along with a putrid-smelling washroom, and of course paper thin walls that allow you bask in the verbal pleasures of the couples next door, both of whom really, really, really, really love each other very much and for a very long time, often lasting until just before the cock crows and you must arise to reach your chase target.

Oh, and don't forget to bring your own pillow(s) and sheets, because those perplexing stains and sandpaper skins (aka pillow covers) aren't items you really want to deal with after a long, tiring day of driving.

Part of your gear should included a portable UV light. It illuminates multiple 'issues' on bedding plus the occasional wayward scorpion glows brightly under UV light.

Baymont Inn & Suites on W. Schilling Rd in Salina. Was there with a group, and we encountered rooms with no towels, rooms with dirty towels, dirty rooms, dirty bathrooms, smelly rooms, and card keys that would not work. Also, rooms were left open with people's belongings inside, not just unlocked, but the doors actually left open so anyone could just walk in and grab someone's stuff.

North Little Rock

June 2003: Comfort Inn in North Little Rock. Bathroom flooded, room dirty, random trash cans full of "water" througout the room.

December 2008: Motel 6. The clerk was all excited I was staying there (I believe the expression she used was "fine a$$ white boy") until I informed her that there would be two adults and one child staying in the room. She threw the room key at me and told me never to come back... I don't think I will.

Bottom line is, I'm 0 for 2 in North Little Rock.

I have a list of great experiences in other hotels across the plains that I'll save for another thread.

Super 8 @ Forbes Field in Topeka. Stayed there last week on business, and ran into the no wifi issue. Also, my work colleague encountered a rather disgusting bed bug infestation in her room.

Don't Forget The UV Light!

Part of your gear should included a portable UV light. It illuminates multiple 'issues' on bedding plus the occasional wayward scorpion glows brightly under UV light.

Agreed. It doesn't sound like standard chase gear, but a UV light can be very helpful in exposing life forms that should only exist in a high-security bio-hazard laboratory.
