I have ran in to countless instances of the non-weather savy (mostly in my hometown) asking me if I saw the "wall cloud pass over". I will never forget sitting out in my pasture watching a non-severe lighting show when one of my neighbors came screaming into my driveway at 90 mph telling me to take shelter because a wall cloud was headed our way.
He said "I called it in to the sheriffs office" and lo and behold the tornado sirens started to wail! Half the town (which is only about 100 people) poured into the giant school cellar in a near panic!
The publics view on a wall cloud is very off in most cases. If it looks scary and is hanging down then it must be a wall cloud. Confusion is right rdale.
