• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Forum problem

I know you all have/are trying to reslove it and I appreciate that, that's probably why I have been patient but this is turning into something that it should not be. I understand that Tim is the only one that can take care of the issue....has anyone heard from him regarding this yet?

I sent him an e-mail to his personal address Sunday night but it got bounced back to me saying "undeliverable" I guess he may have changed that email address???
Can you mods please tell me what the heck is going on?

I honestly have no idea. I didn't receive a reply to that email I sent a week or so ago, and it contained a link to this thread, along with a short synopsis of what was going on. I do know that Tim wrote on his FB wall a few weeks ago that he had to cancel his forecasting class at Chasercon due to some "family-related responsibilities."

The "fix" on the vBulletin side may be simple, but Tim is obviously not able to work on it right now, so we need to move past that. This is definitely an issue with 'stormtrack.org' vs. 'www.stormtrack.org' and session cookies.

I was not able to recreate this issue in Firefox or Chrome, and I believe it to be an IE-only issue. I tried multiple advanced settings for cookie handling in IE9 and was not able to fix the issue with any of those settings. I did however, write down some steps that should log you in if you are using IE and having problems. I was able to recreate this in IE, and this is the only thing I found that worked:

Clear your cookies (probably not necessary, but let's get a fresh start)
Click 'Tools' or the Tool icon (looks like a gear)
Click 'Internet Options'
Under 'Browsing history' click 'Delete...'
Uncheck 'Preserve Favorites website data' and check 'Cookies'
Click 'Delete'

Copy this URL and paste it into the address bar:

http://www.stormtrack.org/forum/

In the top right of the screen:
1) Enter your user name
2) Enter your password
3) Check the box that says 'Remember Me?' (the ad will obscure this, but you can still check it)
4) Click 'Log in'

You will now have session cookies set for www.stormtrack.org so you shouldn't need to type in your login information again.

In the future, you can either directly go to:

http://www.stormtrack.org/forum/

or if you go to:

http://stormtrack.org

click on the 'Forum' link under 'Site Navigation' and you'll be redirected to the correct page. You don't need to enter your login information again because a session cookie has already been set.

Here's a list of the issues that Tim has addressed on the administration side within the last 24 hours, along with a status message on the nature of the fix:

EDITED 25 March 2011 1409 CDT

Unable to stay logged in via http://stormtrack.org vs. http://www.stormtrack.org
This appears to be fixed now. Changed the cookie domain to .stormtrack.org, logged in at http://stormtrack.org on IE8 and was successful.

Remember me checkbox obscured by banner ad.
Fixed.

Search broken on posts prior to vB4 upgrade
Forum was taken down for 2 hours this morning to rebuild the search indexes. A test search was done and plenty of 2005 messages were found.

"Thanks" plugin incompatible with vB4
Tim checked the vbulletin forums for this mod and it is unsupported, with a realistic chance of causing downtime or database corruption. The administrator will have to keep an eye out for a similar mod.

Popup notification absent on some incoming private messages
Tim researched this problem and checked our settings and came up empty. This may have something to do with caching on the user's computer or their popup blocker settings in their browser.

Thanks Tim for fixing the above issues. On the PM pop up notification mentioned by Jesse above, I second the suggestion that it is a pop up blocker setting within the browser (or browser toolbars) per my previous post in this thread.

Since I've been one of the harshest on Tim, I will also say thank you to him to fixing some or all the current issues....especially the search!.
