Favourite restaurants in chase alley

The Big Texan in Amarillo! Best steaks I've tasted, and the chocolate cake is HUGE!

Stay at one of the nearby motels and the restaraunt will send out a big old limo, with cow horns on it, to pick you up, and then take you back later!

Hahaha that's awesome! I love the Big Texan...such a cheesy tourist trap but it's fun and the food is really good. Everyone should try it at least once in my opinion. It's a little pricey though, so it may have to be saved for special occasions (like when you bag 10 tornados on one day or something like that).

In Oklahoma, Ted's Cafe Escondido has awesome Mexican food (Oklahoma City - 2 locations). As a Texan who has eaten a LOT of Mexican food, Ted's has hands-down the best fajitas I've ever had. They give you so much, though, that it's good to split it with friends.

Also, if you want good Italian food, Tulsa and Oklahoma City both have Zio's. I love that place!!!

Hey Melissa - it's a special occasion every time we get to Amarillo - it's a long way from London! I'm not sure what it is, but I've always liked Amarillo as a place, even though I only get there a couple of times a year at the very most.

There are so many more places with better steaks than the Big Texan, you pay for the experience, not the food. Thats just my opinion, but growing up near there I had it plenty of times, the food could be better for what you pay.

As for best place to stop on a chase in the panhandle considering time constraints of chasing, Allsups (convenient store) is always the way to go. Burritos, corn dogs, and popcorn chicken that are cooked under a heat lamp. What could be better.

As for good steaks go, Saltgrass Steakhouses are the best. They are all over central Texas and we recently got one in Norman. Its the only place I have ever ate at that I never used steak sauce, because the steaks are so good you dont need it.

Hereford house right off of I-70 near K.C. It's actually on the east side by Independence and Blue Springs. Delicious steaks! Wifi too and little private dining rooms so you have lots of space to spread out. Arthur Bryants is my favorite BBQ in town. If ever in northwest MO there is a truckstop called "Greys." They have the best bisquits and gravy ever! It's in the middle of nowhere north of Maryville about 10 min from IA border.

The last time I tried a sit down meal while chasing was about five years ago. I stopped at a Chinese restaurant and then realized I had locked the keys in my car. A police officer tried to unlock the car for me for 30 minutes, as towering cumulus built within sight - but completely out of reach. Ok - so having said that ... on a bust day around KC, a lot of good restaurants have already been named. Bryants and Gates are my favorite BBQ (I have the unfortunate pleasure of practically living next door to one of the Gates - and can smell it every single day). I also like Kona Grill on the Plaza, Plaza III, Ruths Chris. If you like authentic Mexican, try one of the out-of-the-way places off the Boulevard or a little place called Pancho's on Main Street. Good stuff there. If you like middle eastern, try Jerusalem Deli or a place called Cafe Casablanca in Overland Park. For Indian, go for Ruchi in OP or Swagat in Zona Rosa. For chasers, Zone Rosa is super convenient off of 29 and has lots of great food. Kansas City has way too much good food in general.

In Omaha, I love Upstream and just about anywhere I've tried in Old Market. Had to work up there last week and I had forgotten just how good that place is. In Wichita, I'm all about Scotch & Sirloin ... oh ... my ... gosh. Great steak down there. The north side of town has lots of good, authentic Mexican places too.

used to love the catfish place outside of Wichita Falls - until it burned down....

Llano, TX - Cooper's BBQ - it will absolutely ruin you for any other BBQ anywhere

I can vouch for the Big Texan and yes that chocolate cake is huge! My poor friend Ron looked like he was going to burst at the seams after finishing his dinner and that piece of cake.... musta been the size of his head lol.

I gotta put a word in for the Peppermill Steakhouse in Valentine, NE located right across from a Western clothing store. Their food is quite delicious.

As for fast food, I like Sonic, can be found anywhere.

Hey, I live in Amarillo and I think the BIG TEXAN has great steaks...SO THERE!!!:D

Seriously, I do like their prime rib with the horseradish sauce. It's pretty yummy! If your in the area, and it happens to be your B-Day, you get a free prime rib dinner. Just show them your drivers license for proof.

I am thinking we should have a little chaser get together at the Big Texan and see who can get the free dinner for eating the 70 oz steak. Post chase of course, no sense to OD on steak just before a chase.......:D

Interesting fact about the BIG TEXAN some of you may not have known about. They were gonna have a Texas Tornado Museum there back in the mid 90's, but I believe it fell through before it ever really got going. If you do go there though, spend another $10 and try the rattlesnake. Taste like chicken, but it has little bones everywhere in it.

I actually remember when they had talked about putting in a Tornado Museum.

When I last ate at the Big Texas there was this skinny little guy that downed the 70 oz steak dinner and got it free. That thing is huge. I have a picture of the replica they have on display, I'll see if I can't find it and get it scanned. There's no way I could eat that.

Actually it was there in 2004. I remember meeting a friend there before a chase and we went in and looked around for a few minutes. After that, I'm not sure when it closed down. It actually wasn't in the restaurant itself, but it was a small building out by the parking lot.
