Chasing with a MAC?

So why not convert the GR products to the Mac format?

That would basically require rewriting the software over from scratch. This is something most developers who have a lot of time invested into their products do not want to do (and will not), as it doubles the amount of coding they have to do and creates all new support issues. Plus the developer may not have the experience using the required languages and libraries to make the port anyway. This challenge might be something an apple developer might want to tackle, however.

Mac's PC market share is something like 3.6% as a whole (the market share in the chaser / wx enthusiast sub-demographic may be higher or lower), so it might not be "worth the time or money" to do it.

Mac's PC market share has just passed the 10% in the States.

I am running Parallels on my Macbook Pro and GR3 and have been REALLY impressed. You will need a Windows license but finding a copy of XP should be easy enough. GR3 runs just like a Mac application in a window, you don't even need to see the XP environment if you don't want to.

You were able to get Parallels on Amazon for $33 the other day with the free upgrade to the latest version.

There are some things I can only do on PC for work and love having access to the XP desktop while having the high availability and fast resume of the mac.

Until the update the other day I think it had been a month since I rebooted it... I love this thing!

I think I'm going to try running VMware Fusion because it would be nice not to have to reboot every time I want to bring XP up just to use GR3. I'll report how it works for me once I get it installed!

I chase with a MacBook - but it's not really a MacBook (OS wise) when I'm chasing. I run Windows7 in 64 bit mode on the bootcamp partition. I was never able to get the smoothing function on GRLevel3 to work properly under paralells or vmware fusion. Also, it ran slow when you are using the emulator and GRLevel3, SpotterNetwork and Street Atlas.

Running Windows 7 on the bootcamp partition while chasing has worked as well as any other Intel based PC (My macbook is intel based)

I've used GR3 under parallel's in coherence mode with the OSX style.
Thank god for that because i can't stand using windows for very long :)
But yes it works perfectly. I however, have not tried to load up a GPS to it.

I use Parallels Desktop 6 on my Mac and GRLevel2 and GRLevel3 run perfectly. Not a single issue!

It appears nobody is impressed enough with anything MAC-usable ... is GR really the only good option?

Hey all,

Without reading much of the thread (on my Blackberry), just wanted to throw in that I ran GR, SpotterNetwork, and DeLorme on Windows XP via BootCamp flawlessly last year on my 13" MacBookPro, running Snow Leopard.

I use a Verizon USB aircard as a data connect option, and the ONLY problem is that the card is wide enough that it covers both USB ports, so my GPS can't plug in. However, a $6, easy way around it is to purchase a USB extension cord and plug the aircard into it. The GPS fits fine, Verizon's VZAccess Manager runs well on Mac and XP side, and the partitioned hard drive has worked flawlessly thus far, with no overheating issues or anything.

Potentially the best purchase I've made in the last decade.

I do use WeatherTap in season but it's not cheap data like GR.

When you say that, you make it sound like the data cost money on like a monthly basis. I have absolutely no experience in this so if this question sounds dumb im sorry.

WeatherTap is $8 a month and I don't think any question is stupid...

Some folks on here will write a message berating you for asking a question because it's wasting their time... Although berating someone and typing the ignorant message is already wasting both of our times. ;)

I'm always available for a PM or email...

OK...this may require a thread split...but I'll throw it out there for the computer geeks.

I've seen where you can do the opposite of the VMware that runs windows within (or whatever) on the Mac computers...essentially running MAC's OS within Windows. I believe it requires an i7 Intel processor because of it needing to match the Apples (I've been told they are 98%+/- the same parts internally). I've actually seen it in action, but know little about it. I like the idea for my next computer (which will be an i7 or better because of huge file need I'm anticipating with photo/video equipment upgrades). Since I'm basically PC based now, I'd rather run MAC-OS via PC versus the current method of Windows via MAC. My only real need for MAC at this point is once I move to Final Cut Pro...which is going to be expensive enough (considering I've to got training to pay for yet). The PC with MAC would be a much cheaper route (possibly...if it's just some sort of hack).
