Chaser courtesy reminder!

Wow.....yall are on a roll:):):)

There is a white, unmarked van that I have seen that pulls into the middle of the road to block traffic that I've come across twice in the OKC area. Next time, I think I will play chicken with you and force you to move. I drive a storm chasing piece of junk and I don't mind a few more dings and dents....just more "war" stories.

I don't understand why someone would be more willing to close the pool than to go out and see the storm for themselves. Is blocking other people that important?

Best that i can tell, this person is blocking the road for some people up ahead....so that nobody else interferes with their "hunt".
But, to park across the roadway and block north and southbound traffic on a 2 lane road.....idiots.
I told my husband just to plow through them but he is too nice....ha ha....but I'm not and I'll be the one driving now.
We each have our own reasons for being out....I chase AND report so their ignorance and rude behavior just delays my reports.

If someone not acting in an official capacity is truly blocking roads like that, then THEY need to be the ones arrested for blocking a public roadway, not someone sitting down in a roadside park in TX.

I am bringing a double trailer tractor-trailer rig on this chase. I will drop one on one end of the road where I am and then go down the road, drop, and block the other end. Then I am going to drive back and forth between the two trailers, hanging out the windows, with my pants down looking like a bent over plumber, taking pictures, running over all of my old tripods, and cameras. I might even buy a couple of mannequins and run over them too.
And if I get bored, I will run over some old used up light bars, Crane County Deputy Uniforms, and some worn out fireman's boots.
And for Shane, I will be jumping 32 parked buses while doing all of this.
DANG, missed the tornado. Oh well, time to start over down the road.

Yikes, look were this thread has gone

I guess 'road courtesy' doesn't apply to 'posting courtesy' on storm track?

I want to also jump out of perfectly good airplane, that's a really foolish thing to do (although with a parachute), do you think that will reflect badly on storm chasing?

What?! No chugging Jack Daniels while doing so? Psh. Rookie.

Hearing of someone blocking the road like that is what grinds my gears, that directly affects other people and thats the person who should be condemmed and punished.

I plan on getting trashed before each chase day this weekend. I'm tired of having myself crucified by all the "holier-than-thou" arses for nothing. This weekend I'm giving them all a reason.

Approach me at your own risk May 22-24 :-)

Still. Let's say I'm with my usual gang and they nail a good view a little bit before everyone else does. They hand me a business suit and afro wig and say "put these on and stand in the middle of the road with your arms crossed while we go film this thing." Now, let's say I'm totally selfish and don't care for other chasers: yes, they're going to get the view and attach my name to it, and nobody else is going to have it. But I won't see it. I have road blocking duties.

Dunno what the true promise of fame and fortune does to some people, but to be honest, if I'm going to have a chance watching a great shot I don't care if it's just the four of us or if there's a chaser crowd the size of a Miley Cyrus concert standing behind me. Don't want a ton of chasers with the same footage to cheapen your shot? Then get better equipment, and use your creativity to create a unique shot that puts yours above the rest. If you're so unskilled that you force a member of your "crew" to lose his chance of watching a storm so he can block others off, then maybe you should stop considering yourself "professional."

I haven't read all this thread yet, but just enough to see the 'bog down' complaints about chasers and bone head moves. I'd like to report that with my 5 to 7 chases so far this season primarily in Texas that all the chasers I've seen have been acting responsibly. People are pulling off the road, etc - at least as far as I've noticed.

Yeah, I can echo the same. Come to think of it, I haven't really seen anything that angered me in a few years. Once in a while someone will pull out in front of us or cut us off (annoyingly at lower speeds, nothing dangerous) but overall I'm just not seeing all the stuff like what I've read here. I guess we either suck and are never in the right spot, or we're just getting lucky.

Speaking of Chiggers....I can truthfully say that they RUINED my honeymoon!
Also, they've munched me pretty good while on a chase. Just ask Warren Faidley about that.
So my point is.....I'll just pull over and sit in my vehicle rather than get out into the weeds while chasing. I've never tri-poded in the middle of a road in my life. Some chasers just flat out loose their heads when a tornado is down...and they loose all ability to think about anything else.

All I'll say (and I'll keep it short as I'm merely a visitor in your country!) is that it would be great if people didn't amble along at 20mph when close to the storm - I often imagine it's probably locals rather than chasers though.

FWIW, we always pull off the road, and as much as possible, go a few hundred yards down a country road.

Paul, I second you on that one. That gets pretty annoying when you DO live here on the plains. That actually is my biggest thing I hate about big chaser convergences. What ends up happening is you get a line of cars doing well below the speed limit, and they follow so close to the next car, the only way you can get around any of them if you want to do anything close to the actual speed limit is to pass 5 or more cars at once.

If a chaser wants to drive slower that's fine, but give some room between yourself and the next car for those that want to get on down the road a bit.
