Chase Case #2 (2010 version)

Well, today was a big bust for me. Thought about heading home, but think I'll bed down in ICT for the night, and get ready for Chase Case #3 :) ;)

Thanks for a hard one--I really felt it was going to be northern Indiana

Looks like my target of Normal, IL worked out well as I was able to intercept the tornado producing cell in Tazewell and Woodford Counties....

Bust for me as well. I initially positioned myself in Limon, CO. Looks like things were a bit too stable eastern CO into western KS for developing any good convection. Heading home, but at least Estes Park is only a few hours drive back northwest:rolleyes:

For the majority, the chase is over. For those on the Peoria county storm, congrats on being on the only true supercell today. Since nobody is chasing near the Chicago area (and none of those reports were ever verified) the chase case is over.

Today was a NW flow event, with modest instability and locally backed winds. The supercell in PIA Co. rooted itself briefly on a remnant boundary and produced a weak tornado for 5-10 minutes. It wasn't very photogenic. Another tornado developed just to the south of that storm near Lincoln, IL a little later on.

Without further adieu....

Looks like I busted pretty badly on this one too. That low didn't do as much as I had hoped.

I like the shortwave shaping up and think there will be a nice surface wave forming along the stalling cold front. I don't like the subsidence in the wake of the feature in Colorado, though there may be some upslope flow.

I'm targeting Bethalto, Illinois. Hopefully the surface garbage will clear out and winds will back with the approach of the shorty.

I can say with reasonable certainty that I would have been on the Peoria storm and possibly witnessed the tornado. It is only a 2.5 hour drive from my 12Z position. However, since there was convection further westward along the line, it is also possible I would have been on that (which did not produce). Either way, when convection fired, I would have headed east on IL 140 to I-55 northward. I wonder what the storm relative inflow was on that one!

I'm just happy I picked a reasonable target for the day. :)
