"Bill" moving West and looking strong

I took a look at the 5-day forecast cone track on this website:

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_at3.shtml?5-daynl?large#contents

What really boggles my mind is the speed of the storm once it goes extra-tropical!! I did some measuring on the map between 8 a.m. Monday and 8 a.m. Tuesday. I estimated the distance to be about 1,750 miles. To cover that distance in 24 hours, the storm would need to travel almost 73 mph!!:eek:

Now I wonder as to what is the modern day travel speed of a extra-tropical storm?? This could take some research, but it's worth a try!! :)

Bill is going to get scooped up by our jet stream on Sunday, just before it would hit the coast. That will speed up the forward motion a lot, especially with the seasonably strong 150kt jet streak at 250mb.

From the looks at what NHC are saying, England will get a tropical storm on Tuesday / Wednesday, I would think that it would of dissipated by then, but still, we would get battered by it, becase even an inch of rain is the worst flood in 50 years for UK.

Im gonig to keep a close eye on Bill while it makes it way to England, dissipated or as a Tropical Depression / storm still.

I think "extratropical" would be a better word for it.

Yeah, thanks for that. This is what happens when you don't know too much.

Been fortunate that it has been at open sea. Wonder what else this years hurricane season will bring, or will it be like this years tornado season?

I am currently in Montreal, en route from Toronto to Nova Scotia to intercept Bill as it brushes the coastline. The last time I chased out there was for Noel, 2 years ago and that storm produced the BIGGEST waves I have ever seen and it was already post-tropical when it arrived.

This could get interesting.

I've got an epic drive ahead of me today so It's time to check out of the hotel and hit the road.
