It has come to my attention that this very picturesqe supercell with a pronounced low hanging meso is being described in the news as a tornado.

It was posted at another "internet hangout" where I hangout. lol

I had to edumacate them a little bit.

Supposedly this was in Iowa on the 11th. I was on the Salina, Chapman, Manhattan storms.

Does anyone know the true origin here? Im sure someone here was on this particular storm if it was in fact in Iowa the other day or otherwise.

Yeah - it showed up in another thread in here and was posted on CNN's i-report (the world's most reliable source for unreliable information). It was mailed to me FOUR TIMES today ... yes, four times in one day. By people wanting to share with me how incredible it was that this is what hit the boy scout camp. And I'm just not even going to respond to these emails anymore because people refuse to believe me when I tell them that isn't the storm that hit the camp ... either that, or I guess it just makes them feel bad that they were gullible enough to send an inaccurate photo.

In fact, I'm thinking of taking old tornado photos and FLOODING i-report with them every time a tornado hits anything and makes news.

Good lord that stuff goes around fast. I've already been e-mailed about that image being from the boyscout camp storm. Thank god it's not one of "katrina" ones anyway. I think everyone has those figured out by now.

For it to be from that storm I think that town would have to be "River Sioux" not even a town, just a little area of houses between I29 and Little Sioux. There's a railroad track there. Thing is they'd have to be looking west to see the crossing like that, and based off google earth nothing seems to match up to fit the image like that. Don't think it was dark enough for the street light to be on(well ok guess the storm could make it come on) or the light on that shop. The structure would have done some crazy improving to look like that 5-10 minutes after I left it...but the couplet sure as hell did.

Hey guys. I was getting ready to ask ST members about this photo going around the internet, titled "Little Sioux Boy Scout camp twister". You guys were already on it. I think the supercell (meso) could have been photoshopped into the pic? Hopefully, the real origin of this will come out.

Now that one is looking more trustworthy - - names and sources are good things.

LOL, thats what I thought but after the way its been circulating I thought...who knows. I remember seeing this pic right after those storms on the 10th and remembering it was pretty impressive and then all of sudden I see people claiming it was the Little Sioux TOR a couple days later....

The AP has this on their sat-fed picture wire now, so I suspect it's a legit picture of some kind. I have my doubts, however, that it's a tornado on the ground, as the caption suggests.

Kind of strange.. As I dont understand the news Biz. When going into Manhattan on the 11th we were listening to local radio. They were in their studio saying we dont know whats going on. Power is out, but the AP satellite wire says....

Im thinking the AP ( Associated Press ) a NATIONAL/WORLD press agency is feeding the local radio station details about a storm on the street in front of them or a town they reside in? And they are reporting it? Give me a F@#$in break. Get out on the street and do some real reporting for Christs sakes.
