4/6/07 NOW: OK / TX / KS / MO (Winter Precip)

It is snowing in east Texas this afternoon here in Palestine, halfway between Dallas and Houston. It's coming down pretty heavy but is not sticking, as the air temperature is 36F. This is the first April snowfall I've ever seen in Texas.

Here is a shot of a heavier upslope band on I-77 at Ghent, WV this morning (at 3200 feet).

I just looked at the surface analysis and the isotherm field is really remarkable. Intense, localized wet-bulbing over much of central Texas. Morgan Palmer right up the road from me is 10 degrees warmer.

This is a quick hand analysis of the isotherm field. The extremely dry dewpoints feeding south from Oklahoma are also noteworthy. I remember this kind of setup used to bust many forecasts back in the 1980s in the DFW area. Specifically I can recall one such event that took place in I think January or February 1985 and only Harold Taft nailed it during his 5 pm weathercast... by 9 pm the temperature had dropped 15 degrees and it was snowing.
