4/21/07 NOW: TX/OK/KS/CO/NE/SD

Al Pietrycha reported a 3/4 mile wide wedge on the Channing storm not too long ago. Judging from radar, it looks like it might be mostly wrapped it rain at this point.

Storm just SE of Lamar, CO is showing a nice couplet now as well w/o a warning.

Tor warning that was issued an hour ago remains in effect for that storm. will need to be reissued shortly.

That is about as tight a couplet as you are ever going to see. Unfortunately, it looks like it is currently tracking right towards the town of Cactus, TX

I saw when the warning went up, then it disappeared just as the storm really got wound up. Now it is moving into GLD coverage area and their radar is showing "down for maintenance. Weird all the problems at once.

Yep, warnings are back and as far as Cactus goes Craig Maire is heading into that town right now and stated that just outside of town there was some damage, a big metal roof getting wrapped around a telephone pole. Might have just been wind damage not sure just yet. He is now reporting some minor damage in Cactus with seeing a trailer rolled over some windows blown out and some tree damage along with power lines down.

Ok, now is seeing some pretty decent structural damage everything is pretty blocked off in Cactus.

The Dumas, TX storm that is TOR warned looks very nasty with extremely strong rotation. You have to wonder if a large wedge is not in the area with SRV1 data that compelling.

EDIT: NWS EMPLOYEE NOW CONFIRMS TORNADO ON THE GROUND IN TULIA, TX.

We just about had a direct hit by a rain wrapped tornado while blasting east on I-40 just west of Amarillo between Wildorado and Bushland. I looked south of I40 about 50 yards and tumbleweeds were being sucked up. About 30 seconds after that right along I40 tumbleweeds were being sucked up as we drove through this area very briefly before the storm went north of I40. We stopped along I40 and looked just to the north and saw a rain wrapped tornado.

Please keep in mind this information was given to me informally just a minute ago via cell from a friend chasing around Tulia, TX. He said that he has called off chasing due to significant damage in Tulia, TX. I will post more info if and when I have more specific information.

Bobby Prentice saw multiple tornadoes from SE of Channing to NW of Dumas (the Dumas tor was a wedge). Looks like this was a day with two primary cyclic tornadic supercells that produced significant hoses- the one south of AMA and the one to the north.

I really blew this forecast- the 55-57 dew points were more than adequate (that ol' Panhandle magic)- I could have been out there for this event, but I really thought that today would just fall short and Monday-Tuesday would be the big days. Now it looks like today was the day, although Mon-Tues still have some good potential.

Bummed and humbled in Atlanta (but glad for those who caught the tubes today)-

I have heard a similar report. Apparently there is considerable structural damage in Tulia. A trailer is suppose to be in the road there somewhere. Also heard there may be people trapped inside damaged structures.

Again, I can't confirm all of this because I am not there. And we know how sometimes news gets blown a bit out of proportion. But it sounds like Tulia took a hit from a pretty strong tornado.

Those two sups northeast of Dumas/Cactus are still in very good shape, both showing well defined hook and some incredible rotations.
Also the storm se of AMA looks nasty and it still has it on the ground, it might cross I40 near Groom.

MORE TO COME..NCF IS WORKING TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
