Ended up with somewhere around 5.5 to 6 inches here. I haven't really seen any larger totals right around here or especially in IA. The heaviest totals seem to be in NC IA but I haven't looked at anything for MN and into WI yet.

After a 2nd look quick, the highest total up here in NC IA seems to be 8 inches 2 counties over to my west in Kossuth County. Plenty of blowing and drifting snow today with wind gusts around 30 mph.

ended up with only 3" here, but there were some reports of up to 5" down towards the MN/IA border in Albert Lea. I wonder if the La Crosse CWA got more than the 5-6" reported in Iowa and Minnesota?

Ended up with a glazing of ice last night in Ames, which made the roads and sidewalks extremely slick last night and this morning. It switched over to snow early this morning and we ended up with about an inch or two on top of the glaze. I'm sure the winds are blowing around the snow in the open country, but in town it's pretty minimal. The roads were very hazardous to drive on this morning.

We narrowly missed out on the heavier precip which would have made things more interesting.

Tim Jones and I drove up to Decorah from Cedar Rapids to cover this storm for our station (KGAN-TV).

We went streaming live on SevereStudios from about 4pm last night until about 11pm last night as the snow came down, also streamed 5-10am this morning. It was very heavy at times, the DOT was doing a good job but it was tough keeping up. We witnessed one car go off the road on HWY 9, driver was OK and the police and tow truck were there very promptly. Roads were pretty dicey at times, since the early ZR put down a decent sheet before the snow came in.

We guessed about 1.5" an hour at times, ending up seeing anywhere from 6" on the east side of town on Montgomery Street to 9" on the west side of Decorah a block away from Luther College. Saw a lot of deers in the field under the obscurity of the heavy snowfall late last night.

All in all a good storm, Tim was awesome in choosing to go to Decorah, we got some good video and pictures. If we would have stayed in Cedar Rapids...would have been very boring give or take some ZR and slush. We'll see how tonight pans out when the cold and winds pick up in the evening.

After getting 0.86" of rain and melting most of the pre-existing snowpack, we managed to squeeze out a fresh new 3" snowfall this afternoon as the second deformation zone quickly developed out of southeast Iowa. Very nice banding yielded some fairly impressive snowfall rates for the areas impacted by them. Looks like a general 1-3 with isolated 4" snowfall amounts setup from southeast Iowa through most of the northern third of IL beneath this 2nd deformation zone.

The formation of the above 2nd deformation zone was something we were watching very closely over the last several days as we knew it would be quite critical in determining whether areas east of the Mississippi River would see substantial snowfall accumulations. The GFS did a pretty good job at handling this second deformation zone from 60hrs out. It did tweak intensity a bit, but overall maintained a pretty consistent forecast. It's forecasted the location of this second zone was pretty damn good actually.

12.8/12.9 Snowfall - Southern Colorado

This storm produced the first significant snowfall of the winter for the southern foothills of Colorado - especially south of US 50. At my location, precipitation began as a steady light rain (rare for December) before changing to snow with total snowfall for the event (08/23z - 09/15z) of 13.2 inches, with valley amounts varying between 10 and 16 inches.

Cuchara, located along the east slope of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range southwest of Walsenburg and the typical "winner" for southern Colorado in terms of snow totals during upslope events, received 34 inches of snow.

The liquid equivalent precipitation from this storm will verify (and surpass in some places, like Cuchara) the GFS model precipitation forecast "bullseyes" of .75-1.10" that were centered along the Wet/Sangre de Cristo mountain ranges and adjacent eastern foothills at lead times of up to 72-84 hours.

10" at my place near Littleton, CO. Snow basically began falling around sunset on Monday and stopped shortly after sunrise on Tuesday.

Combined with a two part event the weekend after Thanksgiving and a couple of incidental snows here and there, I'm getting close to 30" for the season at my place. Less than a month ago, I was complaining about the lack of snow.

Looks like more on the way this weekend and next week...

I measured a solid 6 inches of snow here at my apartment complex in Glendale, CO (southeast Denver), all of which fell between 6 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday.

With the post-Thanksgiving snow and a few other smaller snows, I'm currently sitting just over 12 inches for the season thus far, with more on the way this weekend and into next week... thankfully we're finally getting into a wetter weather pattern here in Colorado, we had an extremely dry fall up until about three weeks ago, so we need all the snow we can get.

Here is Lee's Summit, I measured 4.3 inches. Oddly enough, more snow fell in the first storm of this season in a 24 hour period than in any other 24 hour period the entire 2007-2008 winter.
