Well looks like we have 2 systems now! This will be a very interesting week.

Gustav will handle the Gulf Side and Hanna might handle the Atlantic side. Or will it loop away?

Be crazy if this thing were to hit Florida at the same time Gustav is hitting wherever it plans to hit. I dont remember two storms hitting land at the same time. Looking at the infrared, I wouldnt be surprised if this were already a tropical storm.

As of the 11am advisory, TD8 is now Tropical Storm Hanna. Forecast track projects it to head NW, then proceed west and intensify into a hurricane, threatening the Eastern Seaboard around the same time as Gustav's approach for landfall in the Gulf.

This is shaping up to be a very bad week coming up.

And the question.....as to the timing. Will it be possible to intercept both storms? I know I certainly would like to do that.

The models have been all over the place with this one, several times creating a nice fanning out of predicted paths. I think the development of Hanna in such close proximity to such a vigorous low pressure center (to its immediate west) is remarkable. Three areas of low pressure in such a small area is quite interesting, and that's not even mentioning 96L. The rest of the Atlantic seems to be heating up as well.

I am planning on intecepting Gustav, then blast back east to catch Hanna in my own back yard later that same week ... Dreaming, but dreams do come true!

Hanna is now a hurricane 75 mph. Look for Ike too no doubt (note the TD discussion suggests it's already a TS).

Hurricane Hanna

At 1:30 PM EDT, NHC has issued a special advisory on Hanna upgrading it to a Hurricane. Looking at recon data, many measurements indicate ~75 MPH winds. Satellite shows intense convection on the north and eastern areas from the center but dry air and less convection on the southwest side.

The model tracks will be the next headache but there seems to be more and more consensus of a landfall somewhere between NE Florida and South Carolina...with most models predicting a landfall over/near Savannah, GA. Lets see how this changes by tomorrow at this time.

This storm really has potential for becoming stronger than NHC forecasts or Gustav today. If it can survive the outflow jet from Gustav for the next 36 hrs, a large anticyclone is forecast to center itself directly over the storm. Unlike Gustav, this storm may wind up in an intensifying phase upon landfall.

I wonder if the media has the endurance to ramp up the hype like they did for Gustav?

Considering Hanna could make landfall in areas that have been hit with the likes of Hugo, I'd hope the media would have the stamina to keep people in the projected path informed without resorting to gratuitous hype.

With a new tropical depression in the Atlantic and another vigorous wave coming off the west coast of Africa, the next week or two should get interesting.

Well, well, well. Hanna is continuing to strengthen per recent recon reports of 90kt FL winds, and extrapolated central pressure of 984mb about 10 min ago; advisory winds will likely be bumped to at least 70kt (75kt?) at 21z.
