Winterstorm 2/13-2/14: NE, IA, IL

I measured 3" about 20 minutes ago too, I have a feeling we might miss the deformation band with a ESE shift, I guess we would only miss it if that shift happened within the hour.

This is already the biggest snowstorm for Eastern Nebraska in two years. The last time we had more than 4" was in March 2007, when we had that blizzard that dropped 15" in some spots.

according to radar and reports, the heaviest band is set up from fremont to columbus and then down towards south central nebraska. i think we'll still get the band to come through, but it does look like the band is a little thicker further south. it should be pretty easy to end up with 6+" before its all done. already 5-6" in columbus and fremont.

i remember that storm! the forecast changed from basically no snow or just flurries the afternoon before to a major winter storm late that night/early am. if i remember correctly most of the 10-15" of snow fell in about 5-6 hours, and there was 50-60 mph winds. it was absolutely amazing!

heavy snow last 1.5 hours here in omaha. just measured 6" in my backyard in NW Omaha as of 1:15 pm

I was keeping track of snowfall rates by checking depth every 20 minutes, and at one point 1" fell in 20 minutes! for about an hour and a half 2" per hour of snow fell. I ended up with 6.5"

snow ended very quickly here in omaha about 3 pm. the winter storm warning has been cancelled early as it was in effect til at least 9pm tonight. still ended up with about 7 1/4" of snow in my backyard in basically only about 6 hours! quite an impressive little system. too bad we couldn't have kept the snow around for another 6 hours and seen what we could have ended up with right now a large area of moderate to heavy snow has moved into c. iowa with des moines reporting heavy snow last hour. low seems to be holding itself together a little bit better than forecasted as it heads towards eastern iowa tonight.

Just starting to snow here. Only expecting an inch or maybe two at best. Very disappointing to see a potent little system crap out before it gets here. I was tired of snow, but I wouldn't mind seeing one more good dumping. Can't complain too much though, since we already have 40" for the season. Most of that fell between Dec. 1 and Jan. 15th.

Ended up with 8.5 at my apartment complex in Omaha. I didn't hear any thunder either but I can support the earlier poster that said the had a band of 2+ in/ hr type snows for about 2 hours. We got almost half of our snow from 1pm-3pm in that intense band. It was fun and I got some interesting pictures.

We got almost half of our snow from 1pm-3pm in that intense band. It was fun and I got some interesting pictures.

I measured close to 8" as well here in the NW area and did notice the heavy band like many of the others here.
