Does anyone know if GR3, Delorme, and GPSGate are compatible with Windows Vista Home Basic.
I need to buy a new OS for my computer and I cant find any Windows XP (non-upgrade) copies for sale at any stores, so it looks like I'm stuck with Vista.

I justed checked the GPSGate website, and it looks like they support Vista -- so you're probably good to go. :) You might run into some other issues with other software, but those will probably work.

You might want to make sure that whatever you use to get on the internet (unless you just use wifi) has drivers. I think there are still some cellular aircards that aren't Vista compatible yet.
 
You can still get xp, and as a certified computer tech. I would recommend doing so. Check your local computer repair shops. If they don't have xp on hand, they should be able to order it. Vista probably won't be up to par for at least another year or two, You see Microsoft has this idea that quality should be tested in rather than built in, so untill they get all the complaints and flaws reported and figure out how to fix them, Vista will continue to be a menace. that being said, keep your Vista disk because eventually they will put out a service pack that will address most issues.

Now I have a question of my own:...............

Does anyone know of a radar program such as the ones previously mentioned or similar, that will work on a linux platform? I'm running the newest version of Ubuntu Linux, Which is based on Debian. I can certainly run gr3 using an emulator such as wine but was just wondering if anyone knows of a prog like that made for linux/unix.
 
I just recently started working from home providing software installation support. I usually recommend a workaround for those with questions about Vista compatibility. After the program is installed, right click on the icon on the desktop, then choose to Run As Administrator.
I have seen some discussion of changing a setting in Properties to always run as administrator. I do not have Vista on my computer, and I haven't really seen it up close yet, so I'm not sure how to access the Properties in Vista.

Also, whenever you install software, it's usually best to be logged in as Administrator, as that allows you to control more settings on the program.

I actually just purchased a dell dimension pc with Vista home premium. I can confirm that some programs will be fussy if you dont run as administrator or keep UAC on. Some programs will give you an error but will still work. You might also notice a program that changes your OS to Vista basic rather than premium, Its mostly a graphics compatibility issue or something.

Im running stormlab (interwarn.com) and its running great.

I was stressed out since I was getting vista and heard about all the compatibility issues, But so far its been great.

I was stressed out too. But my sister has Vista in her laptop and I appear to be getting used to use Vista. However, I still don't recommend it - Knoppix 3.4 I use in the desktop computer is a lot more stable than Vista.
