• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

what cell phones are you using for tethered internet? 2008

I am using a Motorola i415 cell phone with Boost Mobile tethered to my computer. It's a prepaid account, as I don't use a cell phone much...but as long as you have minutes on your account, you get unlimited access with a dial up account. It's not the fastest thing in the world, but if your only wanting to view GRlevel3 or email, it's very useful.

I been using my blackberry 8830 via bluetooth and so far it's pretty fast. Talk about a ultra easy setup too. That palm treo was a pain to setup and constantly locked up. I'm going outside later tonight to get the Earthmate GPS, phone mount, laptop and everything setup for trials. I think I'm going to go with SwiftWX for weather this year. To me it looks easiest to use and loaded with tons of features.

Hi! You need to go to

https://developer.motorola.com/

and sign in.

After that, go to https://developer.motorola.com/docstools/USB_Drivers/

There you will find drivers that will hook any Motorola USB capable phone up to your computer (including Vista!). :)

I have a laptop with Vista I'm now setting up with my phone. Thanks for this info.

I may have stumbled onto something interesting. It FLEW when I downloaded the 5 mb firefox. So I went to speedtest.net and it was 1400kbps. I thought maybe alltel was just fast right now. So I'm now back on my normal pc connected through the quicklink mobile ap.

That's all I got that route. I'll get back on the laptop now and post the one I just got through the other route.

That's what I got only 10 minutes before, but using vista and the motorola driver and the normal dial up connection properties. That is obviously a huge difference between the two methods. Perhaps it was timing, but there's only 10 minute difference. I'll have to test it a few more times, but I'm guessing this route is quicker for some reason.

Holy crap. It's certainly just quicker with this setup than the other. This last one was on the laptop and no quicklink mobile ap......just Vista with dial up properties.

That's interesting -- it's a bit quicker than I get on mine! What settings are you using? Maybe I should tinker a bit with my system to see if I can match that. We have virtually the same phone; I think yours is a bit newer (V3m?), whereas I use a V3c.

Settings? I have no clue. I just put the dial up properties into the dailer. Yeah I have the V3m. I'm back on my other computer, I'll have to try it a few more times and make sure it wasn't some fluke.

I just ran several tests on both. I was going back and forth after each test, except for the last two on each I did back to back.

Here are the download speeds on the pc, with xp and quicklink mobile to connect: 1117, 1242, 976, 998, 864.............1039.4 avg

Here are the download speeds on the laptop, vista, and dial up properties to connect: 1753, 705, 1711, 1704, 696, 1206...........1295.8 avg(ooops, guess there were 6 done on this one)

Just when I thought there was nothing here, I'd get those 1700+ ones again. One would probably have to do a lot more of them for a conclusion. The fast ones on this one are certainly faster, but the slow ones are slower.

I had similar results when I was using the palm treo tethered. I was actually considering dropping my cox cable modem after seeing those speeds. I just don't know what Alltel would do seeing my usage skyrocketing like that. Unlimited don't always mean unlimited you know.

I still need to figure out how to tether my blackberry. Bluetooth works like a charm but slower.

Im going to use my old Sanyo 7300 with snap dialer software. Sprint only charges me 10 bux a month for unlimited data! If anyone can find a better deal than that, im all ears.

Next time I'm out the way of Blair, I'll have to bring my laptop along and see what kind of speeds I get up there. Maybe you're working on a better tower. :) Or maybe it's an issue of cabling; I think the V3c uses a USB 1.0 port; maybe the V3m uses a USB 2.0 port. Still don't know why the xp/quicklink would make it so much slower, though, unless it's a really really old system or something.

It may not the best option, but it is what I have. I'm just going to use my Samsung Sync phone this year. Hopefully, it doesn't give me any problems. If anyone has had a bad experience with this phone, please let me know.

i just turned my data back on for the Alltel tethering option for $25.00/month. The phone I will be using is a LG wave. It is a EVDO phone. I tried it today and got a download speed of 2.1 Mbps. That shocked me a bit. Hopefully I will get that speed throughout the plains.

Ive been using a Alltel Motorola E815, don't know if its the phone or my system. Using Vista, Motorola Driver. At times it may take up to 30 minutes of messing around with it to get it to connect to my laptop. Still have year left on contract with this phone

Im use a Razr.. But, my problem is I cannot tether and talk at the same time..

Does anyone have a US Cellular phone that they use that can tether and talk at the same time? Maybe like a moto Q or a blackberry

Last year I used a T-Mobile Dash tethered to the Laptop; it was very unreliable and it was always hard to get a data connection anywhere that wasn't a T-Mobile network even though I had roaming service. This year I have a Sierra Wireless Aircard 595U with Sprint Mobile Broadband service.
