What are you adding/upgrading for 2011?

Only thing I'm upgrading this year is a filmtools window mount for my camcorder. Also, I'll be taking along a Met from the station I chase for. The one I took last year saw 4 tornadoes on her second chase ever (4-22-10). I hope I have that kind of luck with the other Met. He's yet to see a tornado, and he's from Amarillo!

The only thing that I really need to upgrade is my P.O.S. Video Camera!
Really thinking about the Vixia series from Canon.

I am also set to drop some coinage on some quality glass for my nikon. I would
like to purchase the Nikkor 14-24 F-2.8! But, it comes with a cost of about 1,600 bucks!:( So, most likely not going that route, probably more like the route of a Superwide from Tokina.

Heh, unlike you I gave into temptation. Contrary to my deployment last year I will be unveiling in the next month:
Nikon D700, 14-24 F2.8 (take delivery next week!)
Verizon Wireless card for GRLevel3

And goodies already on hand for deployment for the 2011 Northern Season (yes they have already had a run in an excellent Australian season ;).
Sony HD CX110, Camzilla mount.
Nikon 24-70 F2.8

And this adds to the prexisting kit that went stateside last year (minus the SD video which is now retired):
D300, 50 F1.8, Sigma 10-20, 70-300 VR.

And this biggest upgrade this year....4 weeks chasing!

Only thing I'm upgrading this year is a filmtools window mount for my camcorder.

I thought about getting one of these myself and will more than likely take the plunge (eventually). My backup video camera is kind of unwieldy (Sony TRV-17 -> 2001 era), so I will probably wait until I can get something smaller that won't be so bulky in the windshield. I still want to upgrade my radar detector as well, so there goes another $500.00 down the proverbial crapper! I'm looking at either the Escort Redline or perhaps the Beltronics STI Driver Plus when it comes out (hopefully) this month. I need to look into some laser solutions like Veil as well, as these Evil Knievel motorcycle cops in Denver are breaking out the laser guns right and left these days.

My changes:

  • Novatel U760 USB modem w/ Millenicom/Verizon: following up on Scott Bennett's recommendation on his blog; last year I tethered with my AT&T Blackberry, so we'll see how much of an upgrade this is
  • 11dBi external antenna, to go with the modem
  • New tripod: I have one that I typically use with my HD camcorder, but thought it was high time I have another one so I can use one with a camera and one with a camcorder
  • Remote control for my Nikon D3000: there's no cable release option like with my old film SLR, so this remote control will allow me to take photos without touching and possibly vibrating the camera
  • New mini tripod for my streaming camcorder: should be an upgrade to last year's setup with a mini tripod sitting on a bean bag on the dashboard...this new one has an industrial suction cup, so I should be able to mount it to side windows as well if I want to, for greater freedom in where I can point the camcorder
  • Miscellaneous: another power inverter (I seem to blow about one of these every year or two, and I wanted a spare), another UV lens filter (broke one last year), and another lens cap (lost one)

Other than vehicle repairs, this is my biggest upgrade and one I wish I would have made years ago. No more stressing about traffic, rain, close CG's.

Got it off of Amazon.

I have just ordered new radio equipment today. Yaesu FT-8900R mobile and everything to go with it. Thats it for now. I am sure I will be getting other things as well just need more money. Tax returns already gone.

Last year was an upgrade to a HD camcorder this year I may go from Nikon D40 to Canon 7D which will be a big upgrade as was regular video to HD last year.

Got a 40mm (~22mm/35mm) wide angle and grip/winder for my 6x6.

Bought a laptop, so no more "full sized computer in the back seat" hoakyness. :D

Looking at 'droid phones, and will probably have one soon.
