• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Was curious if Twistex will be operational again in 2014? If so, who is the lead organizer, and has grant funding been secured? Will there be any significant changes in operations and/or goals?

I hope someone will be able to carry on the research. It might take a few years to re-set, but it would be a nice way to remember Tim and his crew. On a similar note, was there ever a discussion about placing some kind of memorial (sign, stone monument, etc.) on the site where they lost their lives? I think it would be a good way to honor them.

I was wondering that too. If anyone finds anything out, please let us know. I am just wondering if there would be any problems with placing something permanent there?

This is what it said on their FB page, so it seems like they do eventually have plans on trying to move onward with their work.

"So, what does the future hold for TWISTEX? As Tim would have wanted it, TWISTEX will go forward as a research project whose goals are to better understand tornadogenesis, maintenance and decay processes in an effort to increase tornado warning lead time and to better sample and understand the near/internal environment of tornadoes. Similarly, our severe storms educational mission will continue."

I do know that Ed Grubb has been doing presentations at schools, so in that respect, part of the work is being continued. I truly hope that they can go forward with what TWISTEX had started, because they were on the forefront of their field. They still had so much more left to discover. Let's hope that they can get things lined out to pick up where Tim, Paul and Carl left off.

I don't recall seeing anything about putting a memorial on the site, but I think it's a good idea and I would definitely contribute to a memorial fund.

I think there is a sort of memorial at the site already.
