I've seen very little in the way of new information about the proposed EF scale updates in the past 2 years, other than some cell phone shots of AMS conference presentations here and there. Is there anyone involved in this process that is allowed to give any type of update?

From what I understand, the pending updates involve additional damage indicators as well as the long-awaited and much-anticipated operational integration of non-damage-related tornado intensity measurements like mobile radar. In past discussions, the primary need articulated was to establish the relationship between measured windspeeds at beam altitude with those at "damage altitude". I imagine that to be quite the monumental hurdle as it would require continued in-situ measurements at the ground in conjunction with close-range mobile radar imaging of tornadoes. Given that deployment of the mobile pods/turtles hasn't been done in quite some time, has there been any real progress on this at all? Is that research still being done in other ways (such as the OTUS drones), and if so, is the data leaning one way or the other?
