Yes, things are looking much better now. We are no longer under pre-evacuation, and the fire has not grown in the last 24 hours.

In Arizona, this is one of of the worse monsoons on record, as far as lightning and rainfall goes. Extreme heat warnings almost every day due to lack of precipitation and no clouds. The poor placement of high pressure has been a major contributor. I've only seen one or two days where the lightning was consistent and worthy of pursuing on video. Otherwise, spotty bolts here and there.

The big story will be California this fall when the Santa Ana winds kick in. The extreme heat there is drying everything to the bone.

Monsoon is winding down, but we have at least two good days, starting on 8-25, with an SPC marginal risk. Going to be an all hazards set-up with impressive CAPES and upper level flow, steering.

Saw some nice haboob video from Phoenix on the 10 p.m. Denver news tonight. And we got decent lightning in SW Colorado again today, plus some actual rain at our house, though more is still needed.

Then there was this yesterday....... near Casa Grande, AZ. This is the year of the "haboob." I'd be happy to trade a haboob for a 5 minute lightning barrage at sunset. They are still fun to chase, but I cringe seeing them cross highways, like I-10 seen in the picture.

Saw some dust-storm video from Phoenix on the evening news today.

Monsoon moisture has *finally* made it up to where I am. Have been getting little rainshowers each afternoon/evening since Sunday. Not a whole lot, but enough that I haven't had to water the garden..
One on Sunday had some lightning in it, but other than that its been very minimal - a few rumbles of thunder off in the distance.

Same for Colorado (atleast where I am). Honestly very disappointing summer storm season overall. The lack of lightning shows this year sucked. We'll see if this week & the monsoon brings anything....but other than that can pretty much close-out this year's "lightning season" as a crap one.

This evening I had a cell where the main part of it passed to my south, and northern edge went over me. (glad it stayed south since it contained hail)
There was almost continuous thunder for a short while, yet I only ever saw one flash out of it (a general flash of in the sky, no visible strike).

So still no lightning show...but got some good rain out of it though (just over 1/4").

The really high humidity (50-60%) here the past few days has been awful though. yuck. .lol.

Looking like the monsoon will go out with a boom. Easterly wave possibly kicking off some PM lightning on Monday 9-1 and the possibility of a tropical RH intrusion by the end of the week.

During the last week of Aug, I got various rainshowers every afternoon/evening/or night (most small .. the largest gave 1/4 inch).
So that did feel sorta monsoon-season atleast! (and I didn't need to water the lawn or garden)...
...but what was lacking was any "true storms", and lightning. Not a single good nighttime lightning-show.

Its hard to believe summer (and lightning/storm season) are over already.
It (for more reasons than just weather) feels like it was just done & lost.

Here are a few pics from yesterday. Not totally monsoon, more of a monsoon-Pacific storm hybrid. Guess that is what we needed to finally get some decent moisture, more than an inch of rain so far in this storm cycle in Pagosa Springs, with more likely on the way.
