Not a severe weather event, so mods, feel free to delete if this is too far outside the bounds... there was a thread for the last eclipse though.

July 2, there is to be a total eclipse over parts of Argentina and Chile. I'm going, so the cloud forecast is of particular concern for me. I have ability to travel east and west inside Argentina, so while there are a few spots I would prefer, I'm going to go first where there is the best odds of clear skies.

So far the models have been consistent in a band of high east west clouds, likely associated with the subtropical jet. The GFS and ECMWF have been consistent among each other at 500mb, but over the last day have moved a forecasted low on July 2 from the Atlantic closer towards Chile (ECMWF has recently weakened more than the GFS). This has altered how much the models have predicted the east-west cloud band will move South. So at the moment, more of the path is expected to be under clear skies. Attached below are the current cloud maps, from each model, with zooms towards particular regions of interest.

I would be interested in knowing other sources, for maps, and observations, but weather.us seems like my best source for forcecast maps of the area.
